In an unexplored galaxy, it is vital to have a decent team to better the chances of survival. Mass Effect Andromeda offers Pathfinder Ryder six different squadmates. Some of them are great in battle and provide some much-needed entertainment.
However, others leave one question why on earth they are in Andromeda. They have little to them, their use in battle is minimum, and their personalities are none existent.
So, now it is time to determine who deserves their spot on the Tempest, and who should be stranded on the nearest planet?
6 Jaal
Andromeda is a new galaxy. Therefore, Mass Effect fans would have been keen to see the new alien races. So imagine the disappointment felt throughout the universe when Ryder meets the Angara.
Jaal’s species is somewhat lacklustre. Especially when compared to races from the Milky Way, such as Krogan, Asari, Turian, Drell, Salarians and more. In fact, all Jaal successfully did was remind people that the Quarians never made it to Andromeda.
On the battlefield, Jaal isn’t much of a support, his abilities aren’t amazing, and his accuracy is shocking.
Leave this guy on the Tempest. He’s lucky he even gets to be on the ship.
5 Cora Harper
The only reason Cora Harper made it this far on the list is that she wasn’t totally useless in combat. Had it come down to personality, well, she is so non-existent that she may have been left out altogether.
On the battlefield, Harper can call upon her biotic abilities. Granted, this may prove useful for a Ryder that prefers to shoot or hack things. However, there is another teammate that could prove more useful. Someone who enjoys a bit of banter, unlike lieutenant boring.
At least Cora has a good loyalty mission, though it has nothing to do with her and everything to do with exploring a derelict spaceship.
4 Liam Kosta
Meh. That is the best way to describe Liam Costa. He has very little to offer, certainly nothing that would set him out from the pack.
Moreover, Liam may have the worst loyalty mission of the bunch. At least Jaal and Cora both had good missions, which nearly balanced out the bad. However, Kosta had no such luck. Yet, he has more of a use than Cora and Jaal, if only for movie night on the Tempest.
However, at least Liam showed some semblance of a personality. Just a shame he didn’t have more to offer. The groundwork was there with this squaddie. Still, he failed to reach the heights of Vetra, PeeBee and Drack.
3 PeeBee
Now it is time to discuss the better half of Ryder’s squad. PeeBee is certainly one of the more entertaining squadmates. Regardless of who she is paired with, the Asari has some witty banter prepared, making this journey through an unknown galaxy that bit more bearable.
Furthermore, she is also biotic. As such, she can offer the pathfinder some valuable support, with the firearms to back her up too. PeeBee finds herself in third place, but any of the top three arguably deserve the top spot.
Furthermore, the Asari shows great character growth throughout the adventure. Her story unfolds at a great pace, rewarding Ryder with more and more information on their new squadmate.
2 Drack
No Mass Effect squad would be complete without a Krogan. And, as usual, the fierce teammate proves to be one of the best available. In Andromeda, there is no doubt that Drack offers valuable combat support.
As a Krogan, he is a tank, Drack can dish out damage just as well as he can take it. Equipped with a shotgun, he can take out enemies at a close range, leaving Ryder to either shoot from a distance or join him on the front lines.
Not to mention that Krogan have a tendency to be amusing, not that they mean to be of course.
1 Vetra
Vetra is clearly the Garrus of Andromeda, and it shows. She is well equipped to handle a firefight, much like the loveable Turian in the Milky Way, Vetra offers vital support.
While Vetra may not have the same health pool as Drax, she can still withstand plenty of damage. Moreover, she has abilities that can dish out damage just as effectively as her guns. Oh, and her personal missions happen to be some of the best in the game, she even makes for a good romance choice.
Pair up this Turian with Peebee, or Drax, and Ryder is guaranteed a fighting chance. With plenty of laughs to go around.
