There are few props from God of War that players are dying to get their hands on more than the Leviathan Axe, aside from, of course, the many versions of the Blades of Chaos from the original trilogy. As a result, special effects expert Adam Savage, who most know from MythBusters, recently took the challenge to bring Kratos’ new Leviathan Axe to life in a new prop build.
According to Savage, this build has been inspired by a request from his nephew, who asked for the Leviathan Axe from God of War as a Christmas present. Naturally, Savage took this as a golden opportunity to not only make the item himself, but also treat it as a bit of a teaching process for viewers on his YouTube channel.
The build, from conception to polish, has been uploaded as a part of Savage’s One Day Builds series on YouTube channel, Adam Savage Tested, where he usually either creates new rigs for his workshop or fantasy props. So, fitting the God of War‘s powerful Leviathan Axe into the series is an easy choice for a new project, even if Savage’s personal experience with the game is limited, as he admits in the video. As for the result of the build, this version of the weapon is strikingly true to form when it comes to trying to recreate the weapon in a way that could work as a prop.
Savage also posted the finished result to Twitter, which has even been retweeted by Creative Director Cory Barlog, the person behind the Leviathan Axe coming to the new God of War in the first place. From there, a number of fans of both Savage and the game have gathered around the build to comment on the fantastic results achieved by the end of the video. Even if the blade itself is made out of a type of PVC sheet, it still looks the part, and at least should be safe for the person that the build is intended to be a gift for.
The build itself appears to have been a joy to make, if Savage’s comments throughout the build video are anything to go by as he giddily jumps from one idea to the next. However, the build itself isn’t necessarily overly complicated, so some fans with a few of the proper tools might be able to follow along with the progress of the video and make props of their owns. As far as diving into God of War‘s details goes, there are few items from the series that could make a better prop than Kratos’ iconic weapons.
God of War is available now for PS4.
