James Gunn Answered Fan Questions On Suicide Squad And Thor

There hasn’t been much in terms of new info concerning The Suicide Squad lately. But that hasn’t stopped an apparently eager James Gunn to use a throwaway post from a DC fan account as an excuse to answer a few fan queries about his upcoming sequel/reboot/movie without Jared Leto. Posting a quote tweet expressing his excitement for the film, Gunn noticed that fans had begun replying with their questions about The Suicide Squad, and he happily obliged.

Many fans posed questions about details that Gunn likely wasn’t at liberty to disclose at the moment, but he snapped up a few more minor but important points, hopefully setting a few minds at ease. Questions including “I didn’t see the 2016 Suicide Squad. Will I be hopelessly lost if I don’t watch it before seeing yours?” received his attention, and his response was a quick and affirming “No, you will be just fine.”

Other fans offered thoughts about the release of the film and its trailers, wondering if it would come to theaters as well as when a proper trailer would drop. Gunn confirmed the first, adding that the whole film was also filmed in IMAX. As for the second, he expressed his regrets that he hasn’t released a trailer just yet, but that he is currently working on it and “It will be worth the wait.”

One other question concerned not The Suicide Squad, but another upcoming film from DC rival Marvel, Thor: Love and Thunder. Since characters from Gunn’s previous and wildly popular Guardians of the Galaxy movies would be showing up in the latest Thor sequel, fans were curious whether he would directly consult on it. “Yes. Have been doing,” he said, “They’re in great hands with [director Taika Waititi].”

Gunn quickly drew the attention of many of the DC faithful when he came on to direct the follow-up to 2016’s divisive film Suicide Squad. His various info dumps since then have teased the movie’s large and star-studded cast, including Idris Elba, John Cena, and even Sylvester Stallone, giving audiences even more reasons to be excited. A good number of fans are also likely excited to see Margot Robbie and Viola Davis reprising their roles as Harley Quinn and Amanda Waller, respectively.

2016’s Suicide Squad had its fans too, with some rallying for an “Ayer Cut” based on director David Ayer’s original vision for the film. While there’s no telling whether the campaign will be successful, it’s worth noting that a similar push resulted in HBO allowing Zack Snyder to create his “Snyder Cut” of his own similarly divisive film Justice League. So anything’s possible, it seems.
