With the Pokemon franchise celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2021, the series continues to expand its media influence to all types of merchandise. With the crossover of fashion and Pokemon already cemented, it comes as no surprise that another label is interested in joining the celebration.
The next clothing brand to embrace the Pokemaniacs out there is the ever popular Levi’s. The official Levi’s Twitter account decided to share some upcoming designs to commemorate Pokemon‘s silver anniversary.
The official announcement tweet only provided a glimpse of what the collection has to offer, with the rest uncovered by Twitter users. In the initial tweet, it shows a bright green floral print jacket featuring some familiar faces. Throughout the foliage are some of the most recognizable Pokemon ever, including Mewtwo, Psyduck, Squirtle, and Charmander. While it might seem to only feature Kanto regionals, there is a Togepi there to show some love for Johto.
Since the Levi’s account was only willing to tease the new clothing line with a single image and the simple “COMING SOON” text, online users have provided further looks at the rest of the collection. Apart from the already teased jacket, there will also be jeans featuring the same pattern. Looking at the design in more detail, Levi’s is definitely focusing on the original 1996 Pokemon Green and Red. This same pattern can also be found on an accompanying bag. The other confirmed design is much more simple, with a basic pair of jeans which feature a prominent Pikachu on the right leg.
While there are likely many Pokemon fans ready to wear their love for the franchise, some might be put off by the price tag. While not official, users online have indicated that early price listings are steep. According to Pokemon news source PokeJungle on Twitter, the jeans are expected to cost upwards of $148. No indication of price yet with regards to jacket or bag, but they will likely follow suit in with a high cost.
While Pokemon‘s expansion into fashion is well known by most fans, the connection to Levi’s as a brand actually goes further than just one Nintendo property. Back in March of 2020, Levi’s teased a then upcoming crossover with Nintendo’s one true mascot, Mario. While the Levi’s x Super Mario collection faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it likely helped lead to this upcoming Pokemon crossover. So for the Poke-fans looking to flaunt their love in comfort, there is an upcoming and pricey option for them.
