Bloodborne Is Getting a 60FPS Fan-Made Patch | Game Rant

With the release of next-gen consoles, most developers are releasing next-gen patches for their games that take advantage of these new systems. Big PS4 first-party titles such as Days Gone, Ghost Of Tsushima, as well as 2018’s God of War has received a performance-enhancing mode that supports 4K resolution and 60 FPS. However, one title that could really benefit from a next-gen upgrade, something that fans have been asking for, is FromSofware’s gothic RPG Bloodborne.

Unfortunately, Sony and FromSofware have yet to announce an official next-gen patch or a remastered version of Bloodborne for the PS5. Whereas other FromSoftware titles such as Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Dark Souls 3 have received an update, Bloodborne is still in the dark. That seems to be changing as a popular industry insider and modder is all set to release an unofficial 60 FPS patch for the game.

Lance McDonald has been hard at work in developing a full-blown 60 FPS patch for Bloodborne on the PS4 Pro and PS5. First revealed back in October 2020, McDonald said that he would refrain from releasing this patch if Sony decides to release an official one, however, the company has yet to hint of such an occurrence, and so it seems the modder has decided to move on and release this unofficial patch for the game. It’s important to note that players won’t be able to install this patch the traditional way. Only modified PS4 Pro that allows players to run a backed-up copy of the game will be able to do so.

Twitch streamer Distortion 2 recently did a Bloodborne Livestream running on PS4 Pro with the unofficial patch installed. The video showcases how the gameplay experience vastly differs from the original 30 FPS capped one present on all the consoles. While it undoubtedly provides for a game-changing experience, especially depicted by the various boss battles in the video, the resolution suffers as a result. McDonald confirmed earlier last year that this unofficial patch runs the game at 720p resolution. While this isn’t game-breaking, preferring performance over resolution, or vice versa, is a matter of opinion. There’s no news on how this patch would perform on the PS5 and whether it would enhance any other attributes aside from the resolution, but it seems players won’t have to wait too long to find out as McDonald plans to release this later this month.

As for an official patch, Sony’s silence may indicate that a remastered version of Bloodborne akin to the $40 Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, that added 4K 60 FPS and ray tracing, is in the works.

Bloodborne is now available on PS4.
