MLB The Show 21 is finally releasing in a few months, and for the first time, the game will be available on both PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that the game will be getting a Switch version, which is disappointing for players on the hybrid console given that other sports games have since been released to Nintendo’s popular console.
Now, for players interested in knowing more about MLB The Show 21, developer San Diego Studio has already revealed tons of information about what players can expect from the upcoming game, and here is everything revealed so far.
Given that MLB The Show used to be a PlayStation-exclusive title, cross-platform play has never been a question. However, now that MLB The Show 21 is releasing to both PlayStation and Xbox consoles, many wonder whether players from both consoles would be able to play with each other. Sony has also announced that MLB The Show 21 would support full online multiplayer between PlayStation and Xbox.
Given that the game will be released on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, MLB The Show 21 also features full cross-platform progression, which means that those who would initially play the game on PS4 and Xbox One can continue their save files later on when they upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
According to San Diego Studio, MLB The Show 21 will include tons of new features such as revamped Franchise and March to October Modes, alongside streamlined programs to Diamond Dynasty that will provide players with clearer goals and several rewards based on how they play the game. Additionally, MLB The Show 21 will include several modes such as Casual, Simulation, and Competitive, giving players several options to tailor the gameplay to their preferences.
Unfortunately, San Diego Studio confirmed that the popular year-to-year saves would not be supported in MLB The Show 21. According to the developer, it is aware that this feature is popular in the community, but the studio “doesn’t have anything to share about the feature’s future.” Of course, this would be disappointing to veteran players of the game, especially since this feature made it unique among other major sports video games.
Luckily for players who have been patiently waiting for MLB The Show 21, the game is set to release on April 20, 2021, for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Like other cross-gen games such as NBA 2K21 and Madden NFL 21, MLB The Show will be available at different prices depending on which version players buy. For the Standard Edition on the PS4 and Xbox One, players will have to pay $60 for the game. On the other hand, those on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S would have to pay more at $70.
Unfortunately, players who will purchase MLB The Show 21 on the PS4 and Xbox One will not be getting a free upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, according to Sony, players who will purchase the game’s Collector’s Edition, which is available for varying prices, would get next-gen upgrades for free. At the moment, Sony announced three different Collector’s Editions for MLB: The Show 21. These editions are the Jackie Robison Edition ($85), Digital Deluxe Edition ($100), and the Jackie Robinson Deluxe Edition ($100). Each of the collectors’ editions will have its own in-game bonuses for players, but all of them would include a redeemable code for a digital next-gen copy of the game. All three collector’s edition will launch earlier on April 16th.
MLB The Show 21 releases April 20, 2021, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
