Activision Blizzard has more remasters in the works

This has been a big part of the company’s strategy in recent years.

Publishing giant Activision Blizzard says it has more remastered games in the works.

That’s according to chief financial officer Dennis Durkin, who told investors that it has a few more updated versions of its classic titles up its sleeve.

This has been a popular strategy for Activision Blizzard in recent years. The publisher has rolled out remastered versions of titles including 2020’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 – which was the fastest entry in the series to hit 1 million sales – as well as Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon games. On the Activision side of things, the company has also released remasters for the first two Call of Duty Modern Warfare games, while rumours point to Modern Warfare 3 being updated for modern hardware.

Meanwhile, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 developer Vicarious Visions is reportedly working on a remake of Diablo 2.

In fact, remasters and remakes have become such a staple of Activision Blizzard’s strategy at the moment that Durkin made more or less the same remark 12 months ago during its Q4 call with investors.

“We have a few other things up our sleeve in terms of remastered content that will unveil in due course, which should provide further opportunity for us this year,” Durkin told investors. “And as Daniel [Alegre, Activision Blizzard COO] mentioned, all of this incremental opportunity is digital, which should allow us to continue to grow our margin as we did and we set record margins last year. So we should be able to build upon that. From a phasing point of view, you see our Q1 guide is obviously extremely strong.”
