Did Elizabeth Olsen Predict WandaVision In 2015? | Game Rant

This article contains spoilers for episodes three and four of WandaVision.

A clip from a six-year-old interview with Elizabeth Olsen was posted on Reddit and has started an interesting conversation, which now spans across social media platforms, with fans believing that Olsen predicted Disney Plus’ WandaVision before the show was even conceived. During the promotions of Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, Olsen spoke to ScreenRant about the introduction of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and at the time, she mentioned the idea of Wanda creating an alternate reality with fake children.

When the reporter asked Olsen what she would like to see Scarlet Witch do next, she brought up House of M, an eight-issue comic book series that showcases Wanda’s power to warp reality. Part of the storyline in the comics shows Scarlet Witch suffering a breakdown after losing her children and creating a world where her twin sons, Tommy and Billy, with husband Vision are alive and well.

Clearly having read the comic series, Olsen spoke of how it would be “unbelievable” if Scarlet Witch were to have “two fake babies and everyone tells her that they don’t really exist”. She went on to add that her favorite thing about Wanda’s character in the comics is when she “loses her mind”. But, she was convinced at the time that it wasn’t a storyline she would never see materialize because it was “too dark” for the MCU.

However, in WandaVision’s episode 3, “Now in Colour,” Wanda experiences an accelerated pregnancy and ends up delivering twin boys. In addition, episode 4, “We Interrupt This Program,” revealed that Wanda is the one controlling the reality in the sitcom world of Westview. There are even instances when Vision himself questions whether what’s happening is truly real, with Wanda reassuring him that she has it all under control.

In the comics, Scarlet Witch is also shown to be an unstable character, causing a lot of damage when she loses control over her emotions. And when someone comes close to realizing her truth, she makes sure to eliminate the threat. Something similar is seen in episode 3, when Monica Rambeau, living in Westview as Geraldine, tries to get through to Wanda by mentioning Ultron. Wanda immediately becomes suspicious and Rambeau is zapped out to the real world, thus eliminating the threat of someone exposing Wanda’s truth.

It seems like WandaVision has taken some inspiration from House of M and perhaps losing Vision at the end of Avengers: Infinity War could be one of the reasons behind her acting out and creating an entire fake reality in the form of Westview. It seems like Olsen, who seems to have the super power of foresight, was wrong to believe that such topics would be too much for the MCU to handle.

WandaVision is available to stream on Disney Plus.
