Persona 5 Royal: All Personas From The Hanged Man Arcana, Ranked (& Their Cheapest Fusion Recipes)

In the tarot decks that have inspired the Major Arcana in Persona 5 Royal, the Hanged Man often represents aspects contrary to what many initially think. Although this Arcana is almost always depicted with a visual of a man being strung up by his legs in an upsidedown position, it is not an overtly negative sign. For this man being bound and hung is a symbol of resilience and perseverance in the face of hardships.

It is also sometimes interpreted as portraying an individual who has actively chosen to sacrifice themselves or otherwise purposely enter hardship for often benevolent or altruistic motives. Being suspended above the ground may also indicate a transition between worlds. These are but a few of the factors that have permeated P5R‘s gameplay and have dictated which personas fit into this Major Arcana. Those seeking some of the summoned allies with the best longevity should investigate those who fall under the Hanged Man’s jurisdiction.

10 Hua Po

Hua Po spirits are what appear from the dead bodies of those literally hung to death. Although they do not explicitly represent the idealistic qualities of this Major Arcana, aside from representing a soul’s transition into the afterlife, they fit into this category from their direct relation to hangings.

They specialize in lightly damaging Fire skills, however, at level 9 they are the weakest of the Hanged Man personas and are better off being used as a fusion component for a better persona if one has no need of Fire skills. At least Hua Po can be fused cheaply by merging Genbu and Mandrake for $7,120.

9 Inugami

This elongated spirit is another that displays the transition aspect sometimes typical of those personas from the Hanged Man Arcana. Despite being able to possess people and act of their own accord, Inugami are usually seen as guardian spirits who used to be dogs or other canines that have become something more.

At level 14, they are a decent ally if one needs a variety of physical skills that have minute chances of inflicting special conditions like brainwash and sleep. To recruit this loyal and haunting hound, simply fuse Berith and Angel for $10,936.

8 Orthrus

As is usual for dogs in mythology, Orthrus was classified as a stalwart and loyal guardian. One so steadfast in their duty that they perished at the hands of a demi-god on a quest. Their dual heads are appropriately symbolic for their skillset being split in half between physical skills and Fire-type attacks.

Orthrus, the level 21 beast, is a great ally for a speedy offense, boasting a notable Agility stat compared to other personas of a similar level. They are guaranteed to be recruited by offering up Matador and Koppa Tengu for the price of $18,892.

7 Take-Minakata

An eastern deity who was the victim of an invasion and was forced into a sumo wrestling match. Take-Minakata lost the match, for which his aggressors mutilated him by severing both of his arms. Afterward, this injured god fled to Suwa where he found peace by marrying a goddess there and becoming bound to the most notable lake of the region. In winter, when the frozen Lake Suwa cracks, it is said that Take-Minakata is crossing it to meet his celestial wife.

This level 26 deity specializes in using mostly Electric skills as well as a couple of strong physical ones, including a heavily damaging attack called Assault Dive. Those seeking to ally with this injured, yet still mighty being, need only fuse Nigi Mitama and Yaksini for $33,454.

6 Emperor’s Amulet

Once owned by the King of the Franks, Charles I, the legendary trinket that Emperor’s Amulet represents supposedly contains artifacts directly connected to the most famous of all self-sacrificing religious figures. Allegedly housing part of Jesus’ crucifix and a strand of his mother’s hair, this is the treasure demon that fits the best into the Hanged Man Arcana.

Like their brethren rare gem spirits, level 35 Emperor’s Amulet comes already equipped with damaging skills from all types except Almighty. They even have three traits as well, which reduces the cost of their Fire, Ice, and Psychic attacks. Also like their valued kin, they cannot be fused from other personas. The only way to attain this treasure demon is to find them organically while exploring Mementos or a palace.

5 Hecatoncheires

Birthed from the same parents as the titans in Greek mythology, they were deemed as hideous by Uranus and was hurled into the abyss of Tartarus. Though, during the great war for Olympus, Zeus freed them and a couple of other giants from the underworld to aid him in battling the fierce titans.

As one would expect from a being with a great many arms, Hecatoncheires can unleash waves of physical damage that hits foes multiple times in a single turn. Their Attack stat and critical hit chance buffs stack very well with their multi-hit moves, making them a great mid-game persona at level 42. They can be obtained by fusing Andras and Anzu for $47,404.

4 Jatayu

The nephew of the colossal avian pseudo-deity Garuda, Jatayu holds a similar role in Hindu mythology as a powerful being of the skies. Allied with the gods and their incarnations, he once tried to rescue king Rama’s wife, however, had his wings slashed by the demon king Ravana before they could succeed.

From the airborne nature of this sky-sailing being, it makes sense that they possess mostly Wind skills, including some heavily damaging ones appropriate for their position at level 51. Jatayu can be called upon if one trades in Yurlungur and Power while also paying $110,188.

3 Moloch

Connected with a brutal sacrificial practice in ancient times, Moloch is often portrayed as either a god or as a reference to the act of sacrifice to a god via a method including fire, though usually always shown with the head of a bull.

Their skills in Persona 5 Royal match their sinister lore as they specialize in heavily damaging Fire skills as well as fear-related ones. At level 60, this brazen bull can be fused by sacrificing Norn and Seth while also paying the price of $160,507.

2 Macabre

This death-like ethereal dancer embodies the transition from life to death for all mortals. Macabre wields a scythe in Persona 5 Royal as a representation of the end, though does not really take a physical form in their original lore, usually appearing in sermons and holy texts to symbolize the fleeting frailty of life on Earth.

Appropriately, they have a fear-inducing debuff as well as a couple of instant death skills, the more powerful of which is Ghastly Wail, for it has a guaranteed chance to kill all enemies who are afflicted by fear. This level 73 omen of demise can be fused together from Kali and Yatagarasu for $214,300.

1 Attis

This deity was amalgamated into Greek mythology as a figure representing self-mutilation and reincarnation. To acquire this persona, one must have maxed out their social link with the Hanged Man’s confidant Munehisa Iwai. Attis is a persona worth allying with for their severely damaging Fire skill that immolates all foes: Blazing Hell.

They also have quite a few useful support skills, such as one that revives an ally with full HP and another that fully heals the entire party as well as removing all non-special status ailments. At level 82, Attis can be summoned by merging Uriel and Atavaka for $313,912.
