Nioh 2 Passes Dark Souls Player Count Record on Steam | Game Rant

Nioh 2: The Complete Edition is available now on Steam and PS5. While Nioh 2: The Complete Edition released only yesterday, it is already posting big numbers on steam; surpassing the likes of the original Nioh and Dark Souls.

The package, which costs $49.99 USD on Steam, includes all of the content from the original, very-well received Nioh 2, and also all 3 DLC expansions that came after it. This includes The Tengu’s Disciple, Darkness in the Capital, and The First Samurai. Users seem to be enjoying Nioh 2: The Complete Edition as the game is among the top 50 most played games on Steam currently.

Nioh 2: The Complete Edition peaked at 31,684 players and in comparison to some of the best Souls-like games, which is where the Nioh series falls, the game does a pretty good job. Dark Souls has only ever peaked at 11,259. Meanwhile, Dark Souls Remastered topped off at 24,501 players. Nioh 2: The Complete Edition almost tripled the output of the original Nioh, as the record peak of that game is 10,649 over three years ago.

As far as a few Souls-like games that Nioh 2: The Complete Edition could not top, Dark Souls 2 has a peak player count of 79,528. Meanwhile, Dark Souls 3 has a very impressive 129,975. With the Nioh franchise simply not being anywhere near the popularity level of Dark Souls, it is not a surprise that it does not have the same numbers as Dark Souls 2 or Dark Souls 3. And especially as Dark Souls 3 was a beloved title that was hugely hyped-up leading to its launch, the over 120,000 player count when the game dropped on Steam is understandable. Still, Team Ninja should be happy with the numbers that Nioh 2: The Complete Edition has posted.

One thing that Team Ninja may not be thrilled with is the mixed user reviews on Steam with Nioh 2: The Complete Edition so far. Although the player count is there, the reception may not be. The original game reviewed well with critics, but it seems as if the PC ported version has come with performance issues, crashes, frame rate drops, and more. Currently, the user score is 62% positive, and it seems as if the mass majority of the negative reviews have to do with performance, meaning if Team Ninja can put a patch together quickly then players will go back to enjoying the experience. In a very short time, many Steam users seem to have jumped on and enjoyed what Nioh 2: The Complete Edition has to offer. It would be a bummer if technical and performance issues take some of that away. Hopefully, Team Ninja can clean it up as soon as possible.
