Pokemon GO Valentine’s Collection Challenge – How To Catch Latios and Latias

Pokemon GO’s Valentine’s Day 2021 event is just a few days away and players are going to have yet another Collection Challenge to complete for some good rewards. This challenge looks even more difficult than the last few and is going to require players to catch two Legendary Pokemon during the short event.

The Valentine’s Day 2021 event takes place from February 14 through February 18 and players who want to complete the Collection Challenge will need to lock down both Latios and Latias before time expires. Each of those Legendaries are going to be floating around in Pokemon GO this week and next, but players will need to do some prep work to ensure they are ready to catch them when the time comes.

The process of finding and catching a Legendary Pokemon may be old news at this point for many trainers, but this guide will spell out exactly how to find, encounter, and catch each of these Pokemon during the event window for players who may be new to the process.

Latias and Latios will be appearing in five-star raids from Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. local time. That means that players should be able to use their Nearby radar and local raiding communities to find Legendary Eggs to monitor. Once a Legendary Egg at a Gym hatches, players will be able to see if Latios or Latias was inside.

Catching either Latios or Latias is going to require a few steps. Players will need to team up with a group to defeat the Raid Boss and then have a successful encounter with it to complete this part of the Collection Challenge.

Luckily, things are fairly simple since the pair share their Psychic-/Dragon- dual typing. That means that the best Latios and Latias counters are going to be Fairy, Ghost, Dark, Dragon, Ice, and Bug-types. For the best chance of successfully taking down Latios, consider creating a lineup that uses some of these recommendations…

Black Kyurem – Dragon Tail and Outrage or Blizzard

Palkia – Dragon Tail and Draco Meteor

Rayquaza – Dragon Tail and Outrage

Salamence – Dragon Tail and Draco Meteor

White Kyurem – Dragon Breath and Blizzard

Gardevoir – Charm and Dazzling Gleam

Togekiss – Charm and Dazzling Gleam

Granbull – Charm and Play Rough

Origin Form Giratina – Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball

Chandelure – Hex and Shadow Ball

Genfar – Shadow Claw or Lick and Shadow Ball

Tyranitar – Bite and Crunch

Weavile – Ice Shard and Avalanche

Darkrai – Snarl and Shadow Ball or Dark Pulse

Just like with Latios, catching Latias is going to require a few steps. Players will need to team up with a group to defeat the Raid Boss and then have a successful encounter with it to complete this part of the Collection Challenge. Keep in mind that players who have a team bonus, Friendship bonus, and damage bonus will earn the most Premium Pokeballs and have the best change at actually catching the Pokemon during the encounter.

This would be a perfect time to use some Golden Razz Berries if trainers have a few to spare. Players who are skilled enough should also consider going for Great or Excellent curveballs during the encounter.
