Following in the footsteps of The Mandalorian is a new Star Wars series titled Andor, starring Diego Luna as the titular rebel. The show, which is one of the several Star Wars projects currently in development for Disney Plus, has just named its crew of directors to take the reins of the Rogue One prequel.
According to Discussing Film, Ben Caron and Susanna White have been hired to direct some of the Andor episodes. Both have a wealth of directorial experience under their belts, with Caron known for his work in The Crown, Skins, and Sherlock, and White for her work in Nanny McPhee Returns, Masters of Sex, Billions, and HBO’s Generation Kill.
The hiring of the pair comes as Disney Plus continues to focus its efforts on expanding the Star Wars universe, with Andor just about ready to start production (massive sets with green screens have been spotted in the midst of construction over in the UK). Joining them is Tony Gilroy, the Rogue One co-writer who created the series. The highly-anticipated Rogue One spin-off will follow Luna’s Cassian Andor in a 12-episode, “nail-biting spy-thriller” epic.
Not many details about the plot have been revealed as of yet, but we do know that Luna will be accompanied on-screen by Stellan Skarsgard, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Genevieve O’Reilly, who will reprise her role as Rebel Alliance founder Mon Mothma. The story will follow Andor’s life before Rogue One, where he ultimately died embracing Jyn Erso while the Death Star’s laser fired upon then on the planet Scarif.
Perhaps one of the more pressing questions Star Wars fans have is whether or not Andor will include K-2SO, the reprogrammed Imperial droid who worked alongside Jyn and Cassian in Rogue One. When K-2SO actor Alan Tudyk was asked if he knew whether or not he would be included in the upcoming series, he said that the story Gilroy was penning did not include K-2SO and that he was definitely “not going to be in the first season.”
However, there is still a chance K-2SO will be written in for future seasons, so fans will just have to wait and see. Aside from Andor, Disney Plus is also working on The Acolyte, The Book of Boba Fett, and an Ahsoka Tano solo project.
Andor is currently in pre-production and will premiere on Disney Plus in 2022.
