February has already been a big month for fans of Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption series. First, a brand new vinyl soundtrack for Red Dead Redemption 2 featuring previously unreleased songs was announced, and now players are getting additional solo content in Red Dead Online, the online component of the open-world cowboy adventure.
For anyone who hasn’t had the opportunity to ride a horse and carry a revolver in the online world, Red Dead Online started its life as a part of Red Dead Redemption 2, but was eventually flushed out and separated into its own game. In a blog post on its website that also mentions free gifts being made available for Red Dead Online players, Rockstar Games announced additional employment opportunities for solo players are coming to the game.
Currently, there are several different jobs in Red Dead Online, also referred to as specialist roles, that a player can choose from. Advancing through different levels in the selected job field allows the player to unlock specialty skills and items they wouldn’t otherwise be able to access. The announcement that new jobs are coming to the game likely means some shiny new items and unique skills are on the way as well.
The blog post also mentions that Red Dead Online experienced more new and returning players in December 2020 than in any other time since the game first launched in beta. This is certainly good news for Rockstar, who has seemingly sorted out many of Red Dead Online‘s game-breaking issues that once had players leaving the game behind.
Previous employment opportunities added to the virtual western have included bounty hunting and moonshining in Red Dead Online, but Rockstar is being fairly tight lipped about what the new career paths might be. Regardless, it’s exciting news for any players who have maxed out the other specialist roles, as well as players who are just getting into the game and want more jobs to choose from.
The other element of this upcoming update that Rockstar hasn’t addressed is when exactly fans can expect it to be released, only having mentioned that it’s “coming this year.” The game developer is also allegedly hard at work on a remaster of the first Red Dead Redemption, though this has only been suggested in a leak. The fact that Rockstar has mentioned new careers in Red Dead Online at all means the world will probably be seeing them sooner rather than later.
Red Dead Online is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
