Apex Legends Developer Responds to Broken Loba Bracelet Ability

The team behind Apex Legends have signaled a fix is on the way for Loba’s broken bracelet ability as Season 8 continues its rocky start.

Since her Apex Legends debut in Season 5, Loba has seen her ups and downs. While never making it into the game’s meta, her abilities are rounded enough to land her somewhere in the middle-ranking of legends. Her Black Market ultimate allows players to steal loot at a distance and can get pinned-down squads out of a jam. Loba’s tactical teleporting bracelet is intended to also give the legend the mobility to get herself out of a sticky situation, but things have not gone as planned in Kings Canyon.

While Loba’s ultimate and passive ability have continued to work without problem, the Burglar’s Best Friend jump drive still leaves much to be desired. Fans of the legend have complained since her inception that the tactical’s animation lags, is too slow, and leaves Loba way too exposed. What’s worse are situations in which players find the bracelet simply doesn’t work at all. A Twitter post detailing the frustration in Season 8 has caught the attention of the Apex Legends crew and a response of “Ugh yeah, that sucks. I’ll send it to the right peeps.” from Jason McCord, Design Director at Respawn Entertainment.

This won’t be the first time the devs at Respawn have attempted to patch this issue. Parts of World’s Edge and Olympus have needed adjusting to see the bracelet work as intended. The problem seems to center on dead zones scattered around the map in which the player can aim and launch the jump drive, but nothing will happen. Frustration mounts as gamers find themselves stranded and trying the ability again and again. To make matters worse, there seems to be variations of the bug.

While a fix has not been detailed, Respawn is known for tackling issues with mid-season updates. Whether the Obliterated King’s Canyon map itself is reworked or the ability sees a change is yet to be seen. A buff for the mid-tier legend would be welcome by the legion of Loba mains struggling this season. A faster deployment, longer arc, and a less readable throw of the jump drive have all been pitched in the past. The most popular idea however, is to adjust the abilities’ cooldown timer. Currently sitting at 29-seconds, the timer makes using the tactical for short trips seem unwise.

A change similar to legend Pathfinder’s, which sees cooldown time correlate to distance traveled has gained traction on Reddit. Senior Game Designer, Daniel Kline posted back in January “Definitely could do that!” Then adding, “Could also just shave off time in general,” in response to talk about such a buff to Loba’s tactical ability. Perhaps the frustration with map dead zones could see the timeline of the rework accelerated. A potential fix could necessitate adjusting the speed and arc of the jump anyway.

Players of Apex Legends will have to wait a little longer for the patch to go live, but can rest assured that the developers at Respawn are on it. The fix will be one of many to come in Season 8.

Apex Legends is on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version releasing on March 9.
