Excitement is mounting for Square Enix’s upcoming Bravely Default 2, as it is less than two weeks away from its official launch. Although the final demo for the game is now over, fans were treated to yet another sneak peek thanks to a new video uploaded by GameXplain. Taking players “beyond the demo,” the video explores the region of Wiswald, a magic place that is being overgrown by nature.
Though it isn’t entirely clear, it seems as though Wiswald is a combination of two german words, Wissen (which means knowledge) and Wald (which means forest). Given what is already known about Bravely Default 2‘s Wiswald, calling it the forest of knowledge makes a lot of sense. Its inhabitants are magically gifted, but they do little to stop the ever encroaching growth of nature around them.
In the preview, GameXplain shows off the town of Wiswald, a beautiful yet rugged city that is so overgrown that players have to walk on giant tree roots and branches in order to navigate it. This is the hometown of Elvis, one of the characters in the party, and many of the NPCs here will recognize him as a result.
Outside of the town, the area is full of trees. In the video, GameXplain just recently unlocked the ability to cut down trees, making exploration a bit easier, but it still runs into an encounter on the way. Though it looks rather charming during the daytime, the scenery is much spookier at night. There’s also a mysterious patch of burnt forest that will likely play a role in the story of Bravely Default 2. Watch the video above for the full showcase.
Bravely Default 2 releases February 26th for Nintendo Switch.
