When Valorant launched last year, it quickly turned out to be one of the best FPS games of 2020 for many gamers. With regular new characters to play, detailed new weapon skins to buy and earn, the game keeps players hooked. Another way Valorant gets players to stay engaged with the game is through limited-time events and modes, and the game has added a new one with Patch 2.03.
Riot Games developed Valorant to be a tactical team-based shooter, but it doesn’t stop them from finding ways to make the game unique. Limited-time modes are a great way to add a new twist to a game’s base gameplay, and most other online games do the same, like Apex Legends.
Valorant‘s newest game mode is called “Escalation.” In 5v5 matches, players have to use random weapons to kill enemy players in order to advance through 12 Escalation levels. The team can advance through Escalation levels as a whole, but players will need to secure a kill with their current weapon in order to move on to the next. A player’s Agent-specific abilities will not be useable in this mode.
Players will apparently always start the game with Raze’s ultimate, Showstopper, or the Vandal or Phantom. Assorted weapons will be given to players as they progress through the levels, but it’s level 12 where the fun really begins. In order to win the game, players may have to use weapons like the Shorty, their Knife, Sova’s Shock Dart, or even a Snowball Launcher from previous limited-time Snowball Fight mode.
Seeing different Agents run around with Raze’s Showstopper in the trailer already makes this game mode look like fun. Patch 2.03 also nerfs/buffs the popular Agent Reyna, as her Devour and Dismisss charges are reduced from 4 to 2, but she now can pick up Soul Orbs from any dead enemy she has recently damaged. Other Agents received some tweaks as well, such as Brimstone, Phoenix, and Yoru, the newest Agent introduced in Episode 2 Act 1.
With additional penalties for AFK Valorant players starting to be implemented this patch, Riot continues to improve the game. Players will have to hop in to the new game mode and test it out for themselves.
Valorant is available now on PC.
