Today’s Nintendo Direct was packed full of announcements, and while not all of the announcements were in line with what the community wanted, it was a big day nonetheless. One of the biggest, however, was the reveal of Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD for the Switch, which just so happens to be bringing a stylish new set of Joy-Cons along with it, complimenting the port with a unique look.
Announced as part of the Skyward Sword HD reveal, the new Joy-Cons are themed after the game, with the right hand Joy-Con boasting a Master Sword theme, and the left hand Joy-Con meant to take influence from the Hylian Shield. Put together, the set does look pretty sharp, and certainly stands as one of the most detailed Joy-Con sets available directly through Nintendo.
Nintendo has made a point of releasing Joy-Cons in a variety of colors, offering fans a number of ways to customize their console and controllers. For the most part, a lot of these are as simple as recoloring the left and right Joy-Cons, but in some instances, fans get unique designs. Besides the Skyward Sword Joy-Cons, Nintendo has also released Animal Crossing and Mario-themed controllers for the Switch.
For many, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword wasn’t the first choice Switch port for the franchise, with many preferring Ocarina of Time or one of the other big entries, but the Joy-Cons can fit with practically every game in the franchise, so they’re a good fit for fans of Legend of Zelda regardless of their favorite entry. With any luck, Nintendo will also release a set of Joy-Cons for the next entries in the series.
With the Nintendo Direct now behind fans, Switch owners know what to look forward to for the foreseeable future. There are likely a few hidden surprises sprinkled in there, and it’s a mystery as to when Breath of the Wild 2 will release, but Nintendo does have some heavy-hitting games coming out in the next year or two.
In the meantime, fans at least have small things like the Skyward Sword Joy-Cons to look forward to. Luckily, the smaller announcements were supported by some big ones too, like Splatoon 3. The Nintendo Switch has been on a hot streak lately in terms of sales, and it’s clear that Nintendo is trying to extend that streak for as long as it can with new games, big and small.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is in development for Switch.
