Ever since Diablo 4 revealed its first three classes (the Barbarian, the Druid, and the Sorceress), fans have been debating what the other two launch classes are. At Blizzconline, this question was partially answered.
The fourth class confirmed for Diablo 4 is the Rogue, something that many RPG fans can be familiar with. Combining quick action, stealth, and precision deadliness, this class fits in nicely with the meatier Barbarian and the magic Druid and Sorceress. Indeed, when it came to speculating about what the next class could be, someone to fill in a more dex-based role was pushed, and it’s hard to imagine what could really top a Rogue in this sense.
The trailer shows a few grim shots of the world, and Blizzard also teased that the pierced ears aren’t just for show. Fans can expect more on them at Blizzconline, but needless to say, the Rogue takes center stage. She is shown using light melee weapons and daggers, so it seems players will be able to build her in a number of ways befitting the franchise and suited to the player’s need. As the Rogue, Diablo 4 players will be able to perform “ranged and melee attacks with incredible speed and mobility…to slaughter hordes of the damned with imbued weapons and specialized attacks.” Fans can expect more detailed information on the Rogue over the next few weeks, if not months.
There’s a few tidbits of gameplay near the end of the trailer, which see her dual-wielding daggers and performing various skills and abilities by dashing around the map and stabbing enemies. Equally impressive are the crowd-control oriented barrage of arrows from above, straight forward, and other ranged abilities the Rogue demonstrates throughout the trailer. None of these are necessarily unique, per se, as dual-wielding and ranged Rogues are common in RPGs, but it did so with a uniquely Diablo 4 vibe.
Notably, while this Rogue is built specifically with Diablo 4 in mind, it’s not its first appearance in the franchise. The original Diablo game had a Rogue class as well, and considering how Diablo 2 Resurrected was also revealed at Blizzconline, it seems safe to say it was a very nostalgic opening ceremony. Fans still have quite a wait on their hands, as no release window or anything close to it was confirmed, but this will likely fuel plenty of speculation until an eventual release date draws near, or at the very least, until Blizzard eventually reveals the next class.
Diablo 4 is in development with PC, PS4, and Xbox One as confirmed platforms.
