Rage 2 is Free to Claim on Epic Games Store, Next Game Revealed

Last week, the Epic Games Store switched out its free offerings of Metro: Last Light and Dandara for Halycon 6; a sci-fi RPG that sees players build a spaceship and amass a crew to adventure across the galaxy with. Today, the free games on offer have switched once again, with Halcyon 6 now being replaced by two new titles.

The latest Epic Games Store freebies are Rage 2 and Absolute Drift: Zen Edition, with both games being free to claim until they depart the promotion on February 25. As always, the arrival of a fresh batch of free titles brings with it an announcement on what will take their place next week, with Epic Games revealing that Sunless Sea will be claimable starting next Thursday.

As for what’s available now, Rage 2 is a big get for PC players, with the id Software and Avalanche team-up standing as one of Bethesda’s biggest games of 2019. The post-apocalyptic first-person shooter sees players assume the role of Walker: a super-powered soldier that has to trek across the wasteland in an effort to stop the evil General Cross. The game was lorded for its strong shooting mechanics and chaotic gameplay, and although it did receive notable criticism, it’s definitely one that’s worth a play while it’s up for grabs.

Meanwhile, Absolute Drift: Zen Edition is a top-down racing game that focuses on players pulling off stylish drifts around corners. It originally launched back in 2015, boasting decent reviews from several major outlets due to its simple but compelling central mechanics. The game also features a catchy drum and bass soundtrack and plenty of levels to complete, making it a fun smaller game that’s definitely worth a look.

Next week’s offering, Sunless Seaprovides something fairly different from this week’s shooter and racer duo. The game is a survival-focused horror RPG, seeing players man a boat as they navigate through a treacherous, Victorian-Gothic underworld ocean known as the Unterzee. Along the way, they can look forward to battling horrifying monsters, dealing with madness, managing resources, and spreading their legend. It garnered unanimously positive reviews at release, with several outlets even giving Sunless Sea perfect scores. It’s sure to be one to watch when it’s free to play starting February 25.

As for other free games currently available to claim, PlayStation Plus is giving away Control: Ultimate Edition, Concrete Genie, and Destruction Allstars to subscribers this month, while Xbox has made Gears 5, Resident Evil, Dandara, Indiana Jones and The Emperor’s Tomb, and Lost Planet 2 free to claim for Gold owners. With Epic continuing to release exciting free titles, there’s no denying it’s been a strong month for gamers on a budget.
