Nintendo Gets Cameos in Latest WandaVision Episode | Game Rant

The Marvel Cinematic Universe at large has pulled some incredible cameos over the years, like Jeff Goldblum’s memorable appearance in Thor: Ragnarok and Sylvester Stallone in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. The new Disney Plus show, WandaVision, has recently featured its share of unexpected actor cameos as well, not to mention a plethora of era-specific technology “cameos” as the show revisits sitcom worlds from different decades.

In previous episodes of the unique MCU series, fans have seen radios and television sets that would have been right at home in an episode of the 1960s sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show or the early 2000’s Malcom in the Middle, depending on which episode of WandaVision they were watching. As each new episode moves the sitcom premise of the show up by roughly a decade, it’s no surprise the most recent episode featured a new kind of cameo, this time in the form of Nintendo GameCube and Nintendo Wii controllers.

WandaVision episode seven, “Breaking the Fourth Wall”, is a take off of mid-to-late 2000s shows like The Office, Parks and Rec, and most prominently, Modern Family, so it makes sense that Wanda’s children, whatever their ultimate fate, find themselves using GameCube and Wii controllers throughout the episode. In the same way viewers might expect Claire Dunphy to interrupt Alex’s Wii gaming on an episode of Modern Family, the newest episode of the Disney Plus MCU show sees Wanda changing the channel on her boys’ Nintendo game in order to see the weather forecast.

WandaVision‘s easter egg filled run has, of course, been chalk full of nice nods to era-specific tech and aesthetics already. Among other things, the drone sent into the Hex by SWORD turned into a pre-drone spy helicopter, and the Maximoff house layout as it is first introduced is incredibly similar to the house in The Dick Van Dyke show.

Unfortunately, the chance for a glorious Sega Saturn or Nintendo 64 cameo seems to have passed, though it’s possible the next episode of WandaVision will show the Maximoff twins holding PlayStation 4 controllers to mark the passage of time into the next sitcom era. Of course, there’s no telling what will happen in the series next. Even after introducing an official X-Men character into the MCU, WandaVision has been very coy about how, exactly, that is going to play out.

The first season of the show has two episodes left to go, and considering episode seven was made in the style of shows from the last decade, many fans are left to wonder what new avenues the last two episodes could explore stylistically. Modern Family, a big source of episode seven’s style, only ended its run last year, so it will be interesting to see what, if anything, WandaVision episodes eight and nine draw their inspiration from. Regardless, the fans seem to be on board, having already created tons of unique WandaVision fan art.

WandaVision is streaming now on Disney Plus.
