There is no telling how successful a game is going to be until it’s released. Whether it’s out on PC, console or any other platform, developers need a way to convince gamers to purchase their final products. This is why Steam has been holding its Game Festival event and even though the PC platform has already had its first Game Festival of 2021, it’s already preparing for its next one.
Returning between June 16th and June 22nd, Steam will be running the summer edition of its Game Festival bonanza with registrations being accepted until April 14th. The festival is a chance for gamers to take part in a celebration where they will be able to try out demos, watch some live streams and talk to developers. It also provides an opportunity for the developers to get some feedback from the community and divulge upcoming details about games and other events.
For studios looking to register, the rules indicate that for a demo to qualify, it must be an upcoming game that has a set release date sometime between the end of the festival and January 2022. Games which are due for release after this will need to be registered for future events. It also states that the game must not have been included in either last year’s Steam Autumn 2020 festival or the Winter one.
It’s also important that studios have a store page publicly visible on Steam. The source indicates that a Valve curation team will be on-hand to look over each store page in order to determine which games will be eligible for highlighting during the festival. Steam is very well-known for putting on events which helps promote mainstream and indie games, such as its Lunar Sale which took place earlier this month.
Game demos are in an important part of development as they allow players to get a feel for what the finished product will look and feel like. The last festival offered up more than 500 game demos, which included the colorful Chicory and the alchemist simulator Potion Craft. With COVID-19 still taking hold of much of the planet, now has never been a better time for games to rise in popularity. Steam’s upcoming summer Games Festival will be another opportunity for developers to showcase what they have under their sleeves, but it will also give fans, many of whom are probably still stuck at home, a chance to check out what’s on the horizon and give feedback.
The Steam Game Festival will run between June 16th and June 22nd.
