Star Wars is such a legendary franchise at this point that just about every movie-goer out there can recognize its characters by voice alone. One fan, however, is taking their devotion a little bit further by learning how to replicate those voices so accurately that it sounds like the actual actors are right there in the room. In this video, one Star Wars fan shows off their truly impressive suite of impressions.
The video begins in an unassuming manner, with a woman asking the simple question: “How many impressions can I get my boyfriend to do: Star Wars edition.” It seems like a pretty standard internet video until the impressions actually start, and it becomes clear why this one, in particular, has gone so viral.
Posted to the Reddit community “r/NextFuckingLevel”, it quickly becomes clear that these impressions are very much next level. It starts with Kylo Ren, the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, who also served as the primary villain of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. The boyfriend in question immediately snaps into character so accurately, it almost sounds as if he’s wearing Kylo’s signature helmet. As the challenge continues he goes through character after character with ease.
Of course, he does cover the hits, including Darth Vader, Jabba the Hutt, and Yoda, complete with mischievous laughter. Even more impressive, however, is his ability to recreate R2-D2’s beeps and whistles, as well as being able to do a convincing impression of Alec Guinness’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, followed by a pitch-perfect version of Ewan McGregor’s incarnation of the character.
The commenters on Reddit were also fairly impressed by the video. Not only was the post showered with awards and positive votes, but commenters also had their own suggestions for impressions they wish had been shown. One of the most popular suggestions was a Jar Jar Binks impression, the infamous Gungun from the Star Wars prequel trilogy, while others threw out classic moments or lines they wanted to see.
Quite a few commenters praised his impression of Palpatine, in particular, as convincingly over the top and entertaining, but regardless of their favorite impression, people agreed that they were all pretty impressive. It goes to show how dedicated the Star Wars community is, and how much fun people can have while bonding over their favorite films, even in an online community.
The Star Wars saga is now available on Disney Plus.
