Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Confirmed for PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X With Upgrades

After some pretty significant teases over the past few days, it’s been officially confirmed that Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 will be making its debut on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch later this year. The announcement was made via the game’s Twitter account, confirming that both next-generation ports of the game would be releasing before the handheld version.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 will officially hit PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on March 26, while the Switch port will debut later, with a broader 2021 release date. According to a blog post by Activision, the game’s next-gen versions will boast a myriad of exclusive features, including two graphics modes for players to choose from.

Players will have the opportunity to select between a version of the game running at 60 FPS in native 4K or a 1080p version of the title running at 120 FPS, which will no doubt be an asset to a game as focused on fast movement as Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2. The title will also feature spatial audio and new “high-fidelity atmospherics,” which will add dynamic shadows, improved reflections, and more. Upgrading to Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2’s next-gen editions appears to operate slightly differently from Activision’s recently announced Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time ports, with those who already own a standard digital copy having to bump up to the “Cross-Gen Deluxe bundle” for a further $10 to access it.

This nets them a few additional goodies, including the skeletal Powell-Peralta mascot (aka the Ripper) as a playable character, some new gear for the create-a-skater mode, and retro skins for Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, and Caballero. Those who already own the game’s Digital Deluxe edition won’t have to upgrade to the Cross-Gen Deluxe bundle and will get the next-gen versions for no additional cost. Currently, there’s no word on whether players who own a physical copy of the game will be able to capitalize on the $10 upgrade deal that will be available to digital-owners.

The game’s future port to the Switch is also a big deal considering it’ll be the console’s first Tony Hawk game, bringing the franchise’s bombastic, fast-paced skating action to the handheld device. Although there’s no word on when exactly it will be available to players, it’s sure to be a massive hit with the console’s playerbase. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 originally launched back in September last year and was a massive hit, with Vicarious Visions being praised for its authentic reimagining of both the acclaimed Tony Hawk Pro Skater and its revered sequel.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X releases landing on March 26. A Nintendo Switch port is also slated for later this year.
