Every Tuesday, Destiny 2 fans know to expect the Weekly Reset. This is when Bungie updates the popular looter-shooter/MMORPG with some fresh content and challenges, which helps keep things interesting throughout each season in the game. Fans know to expect some Destiny 2 downtime during the Weekly Reset, but this week’s downtime has been going on longer than usual, with players completely unable to access the game’s servers.
People trying to log in will be greeted with a message stating that the Destiny 2 servers are not available. With the game usually playable by now any other week, this has led to some confusion in the community. However, Bungie has taken to Twitter to acknowledge the issue and reassure fans that they will get to play Destiny 2 again sooner rather than later. According to Bungie, an unexpected issue has caused the Destiny 2 servers to be down longer than expected, with Bungie extending the downtime by an hour.
Bungie expects the Destiny 2 servers to be restored by 1pm PT, so within the next half an hour or so from the time of this writing. Destiny 2 maintenance will continue until 2pm PT, so some fans may just want to hold off until that point to be sure that everything is in working order before they try to continue their Season of the Chosen adventures.
When the Destiny 2 servers are back online, fans of the game should be able to jump in to a new Battlegrounds activity. That will be accompanied by a new set of Seasonal Challenges, with Destiny 2 players having 10 more tasks to complete. Based on the first two weeks of Destiny 2 Seasonal Challenges, fans of the game should have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the Week 3 challenges once they’re available in the game.
It’s quite likely that Destiny 2 will continue to encourage players to participate in the new Battlegrounds missions through its Seasonal Challenges. Players will also likely smash Tribute Chests with the Hammer of Proving for some bonus rewards. Beyond that, Destiny 2 fans can expect some challenges that encourage them to participate in Crucible and Gambit matches, as well as complete Strikes.
While the Destiny 2 server downtime is taking a bit longer than usual this week, fans should be able to jump back into the game sooner rather than later. Hopefully the new challenges and content can keep Destiny 2 enthusiasts satisfied until next week’s Weekly Reset and the new content it brings to the table.
