When it comes to the Call of Duty franchise, possibly one of its most iconic aspects is its regular inclusions of dedicated Zombies mode. But while it was reintroduced in a big way with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War with its Dark Aether storyline and is getting an all-new open-world experience called Outbreak for Season 2, Zombies has been conspicuously absent from Call of Duty: Warzone. It’s been nearly a year since the battle royale released and, if this new leak is anything to go by, the wait will finally be over soon.
It has been the subject of rumors and supposed leaks several times in the past, but Dexerto may have uncovered undeniable proof that Call of Duty: Warzone will receive Zombies in a new update. According to Dexerto, a set of new challenges have been leaked and they explicitly mention Zombies, requiring players to eliminate a certain amount in specific ways (killing eight with a shotgun, for example).
Given its close proximity to the release of Season 2, it stands to reason that the Zombies update for Warzone will also be included. It would make sense as it will coincide with the aforementioned Outbreak mode, which some players have already managed to start playing despite the Season 2 update not yet finishing.
The question is how will Zombies be incorporated into Warzone. Will zombies appear on the map as an obstacle to all players or will there be a separate mode/map specifically dedicated to them? One of the leaked challenges mentions killing eight zombies before the first circle closes, which could mean it’ll be the former, but fans won’t know for sure until Activision itself makes the announcement.
While both Warzone and Black Ops Cold War have routinely come under fire from certain portions of the player-base for a multitude of reasons, such as recurring bugs and glitches, failing to deal with cheaters, and the implementation of League Play, it seems Cold War‘s Zombies mode is generally very popular. It’s no surprise then to see it come to Warzone in some way nor is it surprising that a new rumor is claiming that a future Call of Duty game will be entirely dedicated to Zombies.
Hopefully, Season 2 as a whole will manage to address the aforementioned issues. Its announcement said that the update will come with several quality-of-life fixes and Warzone developer Raven Software has been issuing massive ban waves over the last few weeks to clear out the cheaters.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
