Cyberpunk 2077’s next big patch reportedly delayed because devs are locked out of work PCs

Things continue to get worse for CD Projekt Red.

The fallout from the recent, major hack of CD Projekt Red continues. This week, the developer announced that Cyberpunk 2077‘s next patch, a major update initially planned for release this month, has been delayed.

Delays do happen all the time, of course, but this particular delay has to do with the ransomware attack CD Projekt suffered earlier this year. According to a Bloomberg report, CD Projekt developers have been locked out of their workstations “for the past two weeks.”

Sources told the outlet that they’re unable to log into the studio’s private network, meaning they cannot access the necessary tools to do their job. This is affecting most of the team, according to Bloomberg, simply because the majority continue to work from home. Those who do work from the office have seemingly not run into these problems.

CD Projekt has reportedly also asked staff to ship their work PCs to the company, in order for IT to scan them for malware and any other software that could compromise the company, which hasn’t helped.

The initial security breach allegedly allowed hackers access to game source code for all of the developer’s projects, including unannounced/unreleased games. After sharing some of the stolen code – for Gwent – online, the rest of the package was reportedly sold at a dark web auction worth millions.
