It’s been four months since Microsoft launched its next-generation console, the Xbox Series X. Unfortunately, due to supply constraints and other challenges, the Xbox Series X has been incredibly hard to find in stores, with many gamers having to resort to paying scalpers to get their hands on the console. Those who refuse to pay more than the suggested MSRP are in luck, however, as Walmart will reportedly have another batch of Xbox Series X consoles in stock later today.
This is according to a Walmart spokesperson who confirmed as much to The Verge. Evidently, the Walmart Xbox Series X restock on February 25 will happen at 12pm PT/2pm CT/3pm ET. Anyone wanting to get their hands on the Xbox Series X console should make sure that they have the site loaded up and ready to go. Click here to go to the Walmart Xbox Series X page. It’s quite likely that the consoles will sell out almost instantly, so potential customers should keep that in mind.
It’s unclear if the weaker Xbox Series S console will also be getting back in stock or not, but fans may want to look into that if the Series X goes out of stock again. The Xbox Series S can play all the next-gen Xbox Series X games and can run them at 120 frames per second for a fraction of the price. The downside is that the Xbox Series S has limited storage capacity compared to the Series X, plus it can’t display games at true 4K resolution. However, it can be a solid alternative while fans wait to get their hands on an Xbox Series X.
Unfortunately, the Xbox Series X supply shortage will likely continue until the summer time, if not longer. This has been confirmed by analysts and even Microsoft executives, and again, there’s a variety of reasons for this. One reason is the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact it has had on the world. Another is the lack of semiconductors, which has had an impact on all technology, not just video game consoles.
The lack of semiconductors is concerning enough that it has prompted an investigation by the Biden administration. Even with the investigation, though, gamers should anticipate having a tough time getting the Xbox Series X until summer or later. And then the holiday rush after that may once again make it especially difficult to find the console in stock, but things should still improve regardless.
