Marvel Studios’ WandaVision will go down as Disney’s first attempt to import the MCU from movie theaters to television and considering the kind of toll the pandemic has taken on the film industry, it couldn’t have come at a better time. Yet, considering the widespread success WandaVision has claimed in just over a month, a future comeback is not out of the question.
As fans of WandaVision get ready for episode 8, potentially the longest in the miniseries so far, this comes with the realization that the homages to classic sitcoms that defined the structure of the first seven episodes are quite hard to repeat, especially when considering the inner workings and future Marvel content. Part of that involves plans for Wanda Maximoff, which fans hope would include a stretch into Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Of course, for all things Marvel there’s only really one person whose word can vanish and revive superheroes at his own will, and that’s Kevin Feige. The Marvel Studios president recently told The Independent that the studio hopes there’s room for season two and three of WandaVision. However, at this stage, Feige is not ready to commit to any future projects that carry that same title.
In his own words, Feige said that he’s “been at Marvel too long to say a definite yes or a definite no to anything” and still limited anything official regarding Scarlet Witch’s future to confirmation that Elizabeth Olsen will go straight from WandaVision over to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Regardless of current info, any plans are subject to the kind of fate that awaits WandaVision’s characters over the next couple of episodes.
A lot can happen in two episodes, which will likely add up in runtime to about a film’s worth of MCU content. Plus, with Paul Bettany teasing a major character reveal before the finale or Monica Rambeau’s potential origin story as Photon all waiting on the sidelines, it’s definitely way too early to think of future seasons that would likely arrive a couple of years away from now, at least.
The miniseries format seems perfect for the kind of story WandaVision hopes to deliver as it lends itself better to developing stories in a similar way to comic books. It’s at least good enough for Tom Holland to be addicted to WandaVision, so let’s hope the Scarlet Witch joins Spider-Man somewhere in the future.
