Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Makes Fan-Requested Changes To Multiplayer Maps

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War just started its second season, and while many fans are focused on the new additions to the game, Treyarch has made several alterations to older content. Several Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer maps have seen significant changes, all of which were requested by fans.

This strategy of changing multiplayer maps was recently via a size decrease for Moscow, and Treyarch has gone on to update most of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s other launch maps, too. Satellite has seen a frustrating spot removed from its central location, with the crashed plane previously being taken advantage of. Offering a clear sightline to the enemy spawn via a gap in cover, those using the position to their advantage were barely visible by their victims. Treyarch has now closed this gap, eliminating the spot entirely.

Crossroads Strike has seen some noteworthy changes too, with some shadowy areas being removed from the area to the right of Munitions Storage. With players being too hard to see with the darker textures in place, this change has been a longtime coming. Treyarch has also addressed “exploitable sightlines,” though the developer did not clarify the specific cover adjustments that were made. Lastly, the map’s fourth Hardpoint location has been moved to the crates on the Frozen Lake, making the mode fairer for both sides in 6v6 play.

Arguably the most important change of the bunch is seen with the multiplayer map Cartel. While Cartel is one of the more popular original maps, its plentiful bushes have stopped it from being truly great. Often leading to unfair deaths due to the inability to see players camping on the foliage, fans should be happy to know that the bushes have been trimmed. Now far shorter, they should only be able to hide equipment as opposed to other players.

All these changes can all be seen in-game now, as they arrived as part of the big Season 2 update. One other map change has been announced as well, and it will be coming later on in the season. Miami Strike will see the most despised map in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fully reworked, with its size being reduced and the map adopting a daytime setting. While it is unclear if these changes will make players like the map, the fact that an attempt is being made to fix Miami is commendable.

For Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players more concerned with new maps, though, Apocalypse is available now in-game. The Fireteam map Golova will come in-season, with the Gunfight map Mansion also set to make its debut sometime in the next few weeks.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
