Fallout New Vegas: 10 Things Players Missed About Vault 21

Fallout: New Vegas has many vaults in the wasteland, but Vault 21 is unique. Like most places on The Strip, Vault 21 has been turned into a casino. Players can find the vault at the end of The Strip, located across the street from the NCR Embassy. By going inside, players will be able to see how different this location is.

Instead of vault dwellers, the vault will be inhabited by tourists and gamblers. Players will also be able to learn more about the vault through exploration and speaking to residents of the Mojave Wasteland. Eagle-eyed players will even notice collectibles in the location.

10 Snow Globe Found In Vault

Players who are collecting the snow globes should look inside the vault. Behind a locked door in the northwest corner of the vault, players will find a locked door. Inside of this room between the two beds is the snow globe.

These collectibles can be sold to Mr. House for 2000 caps. After selling the item, it can be found on display in the player’s Lucky 38 penthouse.

9 Only Place To Get Vault Lab Uniform

Players looking for a unique outfit should head to Vault 21. The shop owner, Sarah Weintraub, will occasionally sell the vault lab uniform. The outfit cannot be found anywhere else in the game, making it a truly unique find.

While it does not help much in combat, it gives players a +5 science boost. Sarah’s inventory restocks after a few days, so if players do not find it on their first visit they should keep coming back.

8 Vault Opened In 2274

When it comes to vaults, Vault 21 is one of the few ones to actually protect its residents. It stayed closed until 2274, opening 7 years before the game begins. Players can even meet people in the wasteland who were born in Vault 21.

It was in 2274 that Mr. House contacted the Vault 21 overseer, asking them to help resurrect Vegas. At first, the overseer refused but residents wanted to help. A game of Blackjack settled this difference, with the vault opening. Just to think, if something changed the vault could still be sealed.

7 Mr. House Cemented The Vault To Keep It As A Tourist Attraction

It was not long after the vault opened that Mr. House ordered it to be filled with cement. The reason he did this was to prevent the dwellers from taking it back as a residence. One resident requested some be left alone so that she could open it as a hotel.

Players can find evidence of the cemented sections by looking through windows or opening certain doors. It would seem that this was not always the idea, however. There is cut content where the player would chase Benny through maintenance sections of the vault.

6 A Picture Of The Lone Wanderer’s Parents Can Be Found

In the same room as the snow globe, players might find something unexpected. There is a picture of the Lone Wanderer’s parents found next to a dresser. The picture is kind of small, so it is easy to not notice it. It would seem that James and Catherine did some traveling.

The developers of the game could have also meant for the picture to be of the room resident’s parents. Either way, it is nice to see some familiar faces in the Mojave Wasteland.

5 Doc Mitchell Is From Here

The first person the player speaks to is Doc Mitchell in Goodsprings. Doc Mitchell was born in Vault 21 but forced to leave. He traveled the wasteland as a doctor but returned to New Vegas and got married. He only settled in Goodsprings after his wife died there on their travels.

This is the reason players get a Pip-Boy and a vault jumpsuit at the beginning of the game. Doc Mitchell will reveal they were his or his wife’s, depending on the player’s gender. Any old residents of Vault 21 will also reveal they knew Doc Mitchell, saying he used to be called Mole Butt.

4 Vault Problems Solved Through Gambling

As far as vault experiments go, the residents of Vault 21 got off easy. Everyone in the vault was considered equal, with all conflicts being solved through gambling. It must have worked nicely, as the vault stayed functioning for about 200 years.

It makes sense this would be the experiment for a Vegas vault. If the threat of nukes ever comes to the real world, it might be worth trying to get into a Las Vegas vault. It seems like a good idea to practice some gambling in the meantime.

3 Does Not Contain Normal Vault Door

Vault 21 does not have a normal vault door. Instead, players walk into a gift shop and through a normal metal door. It is unknown if there was another entrance to the vault before Mr. House cemented it. There also is not a normal entrance area, instead having a hallway to the atrium area.

It makes some sense as the vault was built in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip. Having a normal vault entrance might have caused trouble for the other casinos and the road near it.

2 Vault 21’s Board Copied From Vault 101

In the gift shop area, players can find a bulletin board. It is more than likely a relic from when the vault functioned, showing the events going on. Some players might also notice that the bulletin board looks just like the one from Vault 101. Perhaps every vault just has similar activities.

It should be noticed that a few names on the board have been changed as well. For instance, instead of Stanley missing a Dean’s Electronics, it is a man named Ollie. If only players could take part in these activities.

1 Can Get Special Reward For Giving Vault Suits

Players can help the vault owner, Sarah Weintraub, look for vault suits. She will accept a vault suit from any of the other vaults. Through a barter check, players can also convince her to take Boomer outfits. Players doing this unmarked quest should check dressers as they explore different vaults.

Bringing suits will give the player caps and Strip fame. Players can also get another reward after bringing in 30 suits. Sarah will mention she missed the player and invite them to her room. Afterward, the player will sleep with Sarah and get the ‘Well Rested’ bonus.
