A new rumor circling around the Star Wars universe could suggest an exciting addition to one of the upcoming highly-anticipated Disney Plus spin-offs. If it all turns out to be true, Rangers of the New Republic will enjoy the company, as well as the live-action debut, of a fan-favorite character from Star Wars Rebels.
The rumor suggests that none other than Hera Syndulla, captain of the ship known as the Ghost and prominent member of the Star Wars Rebels cast, will join the new series in place of the Cara Dune, who was played by recently ousted actress Gina Carano. Canonically, Hera has been involved with several important moments such as the Battle of Scarif and the Battle of Endor, so this would just be another notch on her belt. Given the timeline of when the New Republic was in power in the Star Wars universe, as well as when Hera was active, it would all add up.
Making her debut in the Disney XD animated series Star Wars Rebels, the Twi’lek pilot Hera Syndulla faithfully served the Rebel Alliance since its early days, continuing to climb its ranks even once it transitioned into the New Republic. Equally gifted behind the flight stick as well as in the war room, Hera quickly became a popular character in the series, eventually leading to a mention in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as well as an appearance in the recent game Star Wars: Squadrons.
While the rumor has yet to be confirmed by any official sources, its originator at LRM Online claims the information comes from its own reliable connection within Lucasfilm itself. Plus, once again, the timelines certainly do seem to line up. However, production on Rangers of the New Republic is still a while away and next to nothing is actually known about the show except for the title. The idea that Cara Dune was even part of the show was just speculation in and of itself. So with everything that’s still uncertain, it’s best to take these suggestions with a rather hefty grain of salt.
Bringing Hera into the live-action Star Wars world would not only be a welcome change, but it might also tie in with another rumor going around, which suggests that the Ahsoka series will feature Rebels character Ezra Bridger. With other formerly animation-only characters like Star Wars Rebels‘ Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan Kryze notably appearing in The Mandalorian, it seems like anything could be possible now.
To reiterate, Hera joining Rangers is nothing more than a rumor at this point, so it’s recommended that any eager fans take that into account. But hopefully, the future holds some confirmation for what would definitely be a popular addition to the Star Wars family.
Star Wars Rebels is now available on Disney Plus.
