‘WandaVision’ Songwriters Love The Fan Remixes Of ‘Agatha All Along’

When Disney announced that WandaVision would feature original songs from the Frozen songwriters, it was pretty much a given that fans would have plenty of catchy tunes to enjoy. But it turns out even the songwriters themselves didn’t expect one of the show’s recent musical offerings to capture the hearts of so many, and they’re happy to hear it.

Kristen Anderson-Lopez and her husband Robert Lopez, the Oscar and Grammy-winning musicians who composed WandaVision‘s addictive “Agatha All Along” theme song, spoke about their surprise at how popular the little ditty became almost instantly following its premiere. “We were sort of sad that we were winding down and we didn’t know if we’d have any hits come out of this thing,” said Lopez during an interview with the New York Times. “But my goodness.”

It wasn’t long before the fan covers and remixes of “Agatha All Along” came out, with some even dropping barely a couple of hours after the episode’s premiere. Lopez and Anderson-Lopez even have some of their own favorites. It seems as though every genre is covered, from trap to straight-up rock, and the husband and wife team are endlessly impressed with the creativity and dedication. Seems its popularity for remixes might rival even the Mii Channel theme song.

When asked about how they came up with such an earworm, the duo happily went into some of the details on their process. The WandaVision motif that’s been present in pretty much all of the music throughout the show features prominently in “Agatha All Along” as the opening riff. So when they realized they wanted to go with a very “Halloween-y” feel reminiscent of shows like The Addams Family and The Munsters, everything seemed to just fall into place.

There’s a bit of a lost art when it comes to writing theme songs. Lopez and Anderson-Lopez admitted that it’s generally much simpler than composing the soundtrack to an entire film or musical. But in a world where theme songs are generally no longer as specialized and descriptive as they used to be, people rarely hear new offerings like “Agatha All Along.” It’s a bit of a shame, really. Classic theme songs can be so memorable that they endure after decades, as proven by Dame Judi Dench using the 007 theme as her ringtone.

In a way, though, that makes this particular tune all the more special. The way fans immediately latched on and began making their own versions of it is heartwarming and encouraging, and not just to the songwriters themselves, but to those who miss the old days where every show began with a light-hearted recitation of its entire premise. Hopefully, WandaVision continues past its first season and gives viewers even more of that vinegar-coated nostalgia.

WandaVision is now available on Disney Plus.
