This article contains spoilers for multiple episodes of WandaVision.
Throughout eight episodes WandaVision director Matt Shakman has built an aura of mystery around the show plot, its characters conflicting personalities, and hidden agendas all within the confines of MCU, so the series finale is set to cap that off before Wanda Maximoff heads to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
That said, WandaVision still has a lot of loose ends to tie up something that has fans working on all kinds of elaborate theories that mights explain everything that’s gone down in Westview, as well as each character’s motives and fate. Mainly there’s the vibranium weapon in the room that is White Vision, who fans believe to be a returning villain; there’s the possibility of Monica Rambeau harnessing more of her powers; and there the small detail of what will happen to Vision, Billy, and Tommy after WandaVision ends.
For all those matters there is no person better suited to ask than Shakman himself, who recently discussed the possibilities for WandaVision’s ending during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. When addressing fan theories, Shakman was cautious to clarify that “there will be a lot of people who will no doubt be disappointed by one theory or another”, instead highlighting that WandaVision’s main goal has always been to see through the process of grief hat Wanda is going though since the events that took place in Avengers: Endgame.
Despite that fair warning, Shakman does promise a surprising finale that should be satisfying for most fans just not exactly in the way that they might be hoping. He also added that Wanda still has to move on to join Doctor Strange in the latter’s second film and that the miniseries “is only one part of a very complicated and very rich life”.
With the looming cameo promised by Paul Bettany increasingly looking like a joke that was teasing a potential face-off between Vision and one White Vision, Anti-Vision, Black Vision, or Ultron, fans should be prepared for some meaningful cliffhangers. Then there’s also the plot involving Tyler Hayward who’s sort of the bureaucratic villain in WandaVision, who’s probably bound to get the short end of the stick here.
As if that weren’t enough, Wanda has just gotten the Scarlet Witch moniker from Agatha Harkness so there’s likely some explaining left to do there. Lastly, there’s Agatha’s mysterious dark magic book and even Teyonah Parris’ comments on the last episode being a cryfest. So yes, it’ll be surprising but probably not disappointing.
