Outriders Dev Update Details Demo, Full Launch Changes

The Outriders demo has been out for a week now and it’s safe to say that gamers flocked to test out the looter-shooter. At one point the Outriders demo passed 55,000 concurrent players on Steam and has since racked up over 2 million downloads. Developer Square Enix did not expect the download rush that occurred upon the demo’s launch, and as a result, many players experienced connectivity issues and console service outages. However, the developer behind Outriders is determined to fix issues not only for the demo but also in preparation for the game’s full launch, and it has posted a detailed list of these changes in an official developer update.

The Outriders team has previously stated that it wants “to be open, honest, and up front” about issues players are facing with the demo and how the game will look once it releases in full. Last week, an update for the Outriders demo released to help the team track player issues with matchmaking and bug problems, and it’s using information gleaned from the update to make changes. These changes will reflect how Square Enix wants Outriders to look in the future and keep the game fun and playable in the meantime.

Square Enix plans to have a patch update for the demo early next week that will address various issues across all platforms. Fixes include a toggle for turning motion blur off in Outriders‘ demo, faster matchmaking times, and better frame rates during cutscenes. There are also a few platform-specific fixes like crashing issues on PCs and PS4/PS5 audio desynchronization issues in cutscenes.

As for changes to the demo, the Outriders development team will be releasing a backend update for it tomorrow on March 5 at 3 pm GMT/10 am EST. The biggest changes will involve nerfing certain Captain mob abilities like Healing Light and From the Ashes, as well as restructuring Outriders‘ loot farming mechanics. Gauss, one of the bosses in the game, will be buffed slightly and get some hit point padding against players after the first time they’ve beaten him.

There are some issues that the Outriders development team will not be able to completely fix until the game gets its full release. The cover system has garnered complaints, and while there will not be solutions for it during the demo’s lifespan, the full game will bring several bug fixes concerning cover locations. The full game will also include some solutions for items disappearing from player inventories and excessive camera shakiness during certain scenes. If players have already enjoyed the Outriders demo, these fixes will make it so that they enjoy the complete experience even more.

Outriders will release April 1 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
