Zack Snyder’s Original ‘Justice League 2’ Plans Were Absolutely Wild

While fans are finally getting Zack Snyder’s vision for what Justice League could have been very soon, there has still been some disappointment among the director’s most dedicated fans. Warner Bros. has confirmed they have no plans to work with Snyder again in the immediate future, and some fans are sad to see what appears to be the curtain call for the Snyder-verse of DC and are still wondering what could have been.

Those fans may be interested to know, then, that there has been a small taste of what the potential sequel to Justice League may have looked like at one point. Recently posted on Twitter by user @UberKryptonian, a whole pitch document of sorts has been revealed showing off some of Snyder and Chris Terrio’s original plan for the two-part finale.

The document was apparently transcribed by someone who had the chance to see it in person, and the treatment supposedly included artwork by Jim Lee. In total there are about 10 pages to read through, detailing every significant plot point and story beat. In fact, the plan was so large, Snyder and Terrio actually recommended splitting the story into two parts yet again, making Justice League 2 and another project they refer to as Justice League 2A.

While it’s worth noting that this is the first draft of sorts and doesn’t represent the final vision for Snyder’s Justice League sequel, some of the information here is very interesting. The film would have shown the Justice League in action and helping save people around the world, all while Batman and Lois investigate a plot by Lex Luthor.

They don’t quite make it in time and Luthor manages to summon the tyrannical New God, Darkseid, and all is lost at the end of the film. Then Justice League 2A kicks into gear after a 5-year time-skip. After overcoming their loss and personal squabbles (including an affair between Lois and Bruce Wayne), the team reunites and all of Earth fights together to save the world from Darkseid’s invasion once and for all.

It’s certainly a bold concept, and features all sorts of surprises like a Riddler cameo, a downer ending, and a tease for an all new-Batman 20 years after Darkseid’s defeat. Although plans obviously changed somewhere along the line, it’s interesting to see the filmmakers’ thought process for the film and how they wanted to approach the films after Justice League. Plus, those interested in the full details may enjoy a small taste of what could have been in some other timeline.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will release on March 18th only on HBO Max.
