Sea of Solitude was initially released for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One back in 2019, and has recently appeared on the Nintendo Switch in the form of a director’s cut edition. Many who have played through Sea of Solitude know it to be a deeply introspective look at emotions and mental illness and might have trouble imagining what a director’s cut of the game could possibly add that wasn’t in the original version. Now, thanks to a new trailer for the Switch version of the indie game, fans no longer have to guess.
For those who have not experienced the EA Original, Sea of Solitude finds the player in control of a young woman named Kay whose personal demons take the form of real-world monsters. Much like fellow indie darlings like Journey and Sky: Children of the Light, Sea of Solitude is equal parts video game and atmospheric cinema. Yet, while Sky: Children of the Light has been delayed for Switch, the new Sea of Solitude trailer shows off the already released Switch version of the cerebral adventure game in all its glory.
As for new content in the game, the trailer reveals that the Sea of Solitude director’s cut will feature a new script, new voices, new cutscenes, as well as a photo mode and gyroscope support. Of course, as many games such as Pikmin 3 have had issues with gyro controls in the past, Switch users may wish to forgo the gyro controls for the more traditional d-pad and thumb-stick.
Either way, with an art style reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Sea of Solitude feels right at home on a Nintendo console. Of course, PlayStation and Xbox users can download the game on their respective platforms, and Sea of Solitude is also available on the EA Access subscription service, but anyone wanting to play the director’s cut of the game will have to play it on the Switch.
Sea of Solitude: The Director’s Cut is available now on Nintendo Switch. Sea of Solitude is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
