Bravely Default 2: Bind and Divide Card Game Guide | Game Rant

Bravely Default 2 is a long and difficult JRPG in the tradition of early Final Fantasy titles. As such, most of the player’s time with the game will be dedicated to learning how to beat difficult bosses like Bernard.

However, it’s nice to take a break every now and again from the grinding and Job experimentation of Bravely Default 2 and do something less stressful. When that’s the case, players can actually try their hands at a game within a game. Just like The Witcher 3Bravely Default 2 has an in-game collectible card game. It’s called Bind & Divide, and this is a guide to understanding it.

Bind & Divide is unlocked through a side quest that takes players to a Casino. Once there, players must speak to Shirley the Gambler in order to unlock the game and receive their first two decks. Incidentally, this is the same quest that eventually leads to unlocking the Gambler Job, although Bind & Divide is unlocked long before unlocking the Job. Players can then complete a tutorial learning how to play, and from there go on to collect more cards and compete against many different characters throughout the map.

Bind & Divide is a tile capturing game, where players use the cards in their hand to occupy squares on a five-by-five grid. Each card occupies a primary space and, often, secondary spaces. Players must capture more spaces than their opponent by game’s end. If a tile is flanked by an opponent’s tiles, the flanked tile will also become an opponent’s tile. If a secondary space captures an opponent’s tile, that tile will go back to being neutral. In addition, some cards have special abilities. All of this must be mastered to defeat Shirley the Gambler before subsequently defeating her in battle.

Collecting is always half the fun and half the frustration with a collectible card game, and Bind & Divide is no different. Players can collect new cards by playing other characters around the world of Bravely Default 2. When a player wins, they can purchase cards that their opponent used against them. These are purchased with special points, so the money earned by selling collectible resources will not help.

Some cards can be earned through other methods, and these are a bit harder to come by. For example, talking to Orpheus in the Casino will get a card for the party. It’s just one of the things to know before starting Bravely Default 2, as players can prepare early to find Bind & Divide enthusiasts.

Bravely Default 2 is available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
