Despite them being nearly thirty-five years old at this point, the Mega Man games are still enjoyed by gamers, sitting up there with the classics, such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario. In fact, it was just four years ago that the 8-bit action platformer games made the leap to mobile technology when the first six games were brought to the Apple and Google store back in 2016. Sadly, it now appears these six will be making an exit at the end of the month.
Scheduled to leave the iOS and Android stores on March 29th, the mobile versions of the these Mega Man games will be dropped within the next few weeks, according to sources. The news was announced by Capcom, though no official reason as to why they’re being delisted has yet been given.
This will likely be a blow to fans worldwide. With no discernible reason as to why these beloved classics are getting the boot, gamers old and new will be wondering why on earth this decision was made. As sad as it is, it may mean that focus will be pulled more towards the new Mega Man game which was leaked last November.
Fans can still play Mega Man on the Capcom mini-arcade console which was also announced late last year, and features five Mega Man games, as well as a host of Street Fighter titles. However, given that the console is currently only available in Japan, it’s unlikely to be a suitable substitution for what was already readily available on mobile.
Mega Man is still available on the Apple Store and Google Play Store until March 29th.
