While Megami Tensei‘s Persona spinoff series has been quite successful over the years, it’s clear that Atlus struck gold with the series’ most recent installment, Persona 5. With a variety of spinoffs, an anime adaptation, a revised version in Persona 5 Royal, and the recently released musou-styled sequel Persona 5 Strikers, fans everywhere have made it clear that they could always use more of the Phantom Thieves.
The group of teenage rebels stole the hearts of fans everywhere with their debut back in 2016 after a 3-year-long wait since Persona 5‘s initial announcement. While the player character always tends to keep quiet, Persona games are often beloved for their well-written and lovable characters. Now, fans of Shujin Academy student council president Makoto Nijima can look forward to a high-quality figure of the popular character releasing soon.
Japanese figure producer MegaHouse’s Lucrea brand will be producing and releasing a figure of Makoto Nijima in her Phantom Thief attire as Queen. After the release of Persona 5 Royal, MegaHouse previously released a Kasumi Yoshizawa Lucrea figure as well, donning her own Phantom Thief attire as Violet. At the moment, the Makoto Nijima figure seems to only be planned for official release in Japan, so fans overseas will likely need to import it.
Although Persona 5 is no stranger to figures, the upcoming Makoto figure is the second to release in Lucrea’s Persona 5 Royal line and can be purchased from Japanese figure and goods site AmiAmi for 15,180 yen, which converts to $140 USD. Unlike the Kasumi figure which is 1/8 scale, the new Makoto figure is 1/7 scale and is listed as an ABS and PVC painted product. The figure is nearly 9 inches tall, with prototype sculpting done by Inui and painting by Ekoshi. While fans often have to wait hefty amounts of time to get their hands on certain figures after their announcement, Lucrea’s Makoto Nijima figure will release later this year in September 2021.
Fans can pre-order the high-quality figure now from AmiAmi and other retailers. Of course, the figure appears to come with many interchangeable pieces, such as the ability to swap between a masked and maskless face, as well as arms in different poses, which feature either Queen’s slick brass knuckles, or her crushing a soda can in a different pose.
While Persona 5 shook things up by opting for an action-RPG sequel with Persona 5 Strikers, the game has been very well received by players on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC. Now, the dev looks to potentially expand Atlus franchises to other platforms, it will be interesting to see what lies in store for Persona in the future.
Persona 5 Royal is available now for the PlayStation 4.
