2021 marks the 80th year since Wonder Woman first made her debut as part of DC Comics. Since then, the character has become one of the all-time greats in superhero stories and is one of the most popular female superheroes in modern history. So, DC wants to make the event a celebration to remember with a global, multi-month campaign titled “Believe in Wonder.”
The event begins with International Women’s Day on March 8th and will continue until October 21st, which the company has dubbed “Wonder Woman Day.” In between those two dates, DC, along with WarnerMedia, and Warner Bros. Global Brands and Experiences will be throwing out all sorts of Wonder Woman content spanning across just about every medium available.
One of the first things announced is a ‘retro remix’ of the opening credits for the classic Wonder Woman TV series, with Gal Gadot recreating the intro in place of Lynda Carter. Also announced are fashion lines based around the Amazon warrior from designers Camilla and Azede Jean-Pierre, as well as a sportswear line from Venus Williams, for those who need to be ready for action at a moment’s notice.
The celebration will also offer fans a look back at some iconic Wonder Woman material, with DC revealing that several classic comics would be made available for free on the DC Universe Infinite website. These free offerings include Wonder Woman’s first appearance in All-Star Comics #8, as well as Sensation Comics #1 and Wonder Woman #1.
DC also announced that when October 21st finally rolls around, they will release the Wonder Woman 80th Anniversary 100-Page Spectacular, a book that will feature 100 pages of original material celebrating the heroine and her legacy. WarnerMedia also reiterated that the recent Wonder Woman films and classic TV shows would be available on their streaming platform HBO Max and that the video game side of the company would release Wonder Woman-themed updates for titles like Injustice 2 and DC Universe Online.
WarnerMedia also promoted an upcoming video series titled Women of Wonder, which will showcase 80 real-life individuals who are making a difference in their fields. No matter what kind of media people prefer, it seems that DC and WarnerMedia are serving up something for everyone. It’s a good year for Princess Diana of Themyscira, and an even better one for her millions of fans all around the world, even without factoring in Gadot’s return to the role in Zack Snyder’s Justice League in March.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be released on HBO Max on March 18th, 2021.
