Fortnite Confirms Season 6 Start Date, Solo Experience Kicking Things Off

Upon its initial launch in 2017, Epic Games’ own battle royale Fortnite became an instant hit, instantly popularizing the battle royale genre among gamers and non-gamers alike. And while Fortnite remains the light-hearted third-person shooter it started out as, it has developed its own lore over the years with the likes of The Visitor, Rifts, The Cube, and more.

Chapter 2 Season 5 has arguably been the game’s most ambitious season yet, with perhaps even more ambitious crossovers. As the previous Marvel-themed season exposed what is known as the Zero Point, Agent Jones has been working to recruit famous bounty hunters like the Mandalorian to stop anyone who might attempt to leave the map via the Zero Point. And as fans have patiently awaited news of Season 6, Epic Games has officially announced the new season’s start date and launch event.

The official Fortnite Twitter account announced that Chapter 2 Season 6 will start in exactly one week on March 16. The new event tying Chapter 2 Season 5 together has been dubbed the Zero Crisis Finale and will follow Agent Jones’ mission. It seems that as opposed to a live event experience with other players, the Zero Crisis Finale will be a solo experience which players will automatically play through upon their first log in during Season 6.

In the past, Fortnite has featured highly-anticipated countdowns to both season finale events and new season launches, but it looks like the transition between Season 5 and Season 6 will be rather seamless this time around. Of course, this event is still sure to “shape Reality as we know it,” according to Epic Games. On its official website, Epic also noted that it will be revealing details soon on how players can watch the global premiere of the Zero Crisis Finale with others ahead of the event, so players will still be able to experience Fortnite‘s “most ambitious story cinematic yet” with their friends and fellow players. Additionally, the Fortnite developer has also urged players to complete their Season 5 Battle Pass, spend their Gold Bars, and finish their Quests as soon as possible.

Of course, this all means that Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5 is officially in its final week now, so any details found from recent leaks about the road to Season 6 could come to fruition any moment now. While this season was a step down from the previous full-on crossover-themed season, it’s likely that fans will see the popular game cross over with even more beloved pop-culture IP’s in the future.

With the recent addition of an Ant-Man skin following the release of Street Fighter‘s Ryu and Chun-Li, it’s rather hard to predict who might come to Fortnite next. Either way, players certainly seem to be in for some surprises in the upcoming season.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
