Borsalino, known more popularly as Kizaru, is arguably one of the most powerful Devil Fruit users in all of One Piece. Having eaten the Pika Pika no Mi, the Marine Admiral can make, manipulate, and transform into light, and uses this ability to maximize on speed to overwhelm enemies. As such, it goes without saying that Kizaru’s battle prowess and Devil Fruit are a deadly combination for foes.
But as is the case with all Devil Fruit users and abilities, Kizaru isn’t wholly unstoppable. While other Devil Fruit users like Luffy (who is rarely outmatched in other ways) have been overpowered by Kizaru before, certain Devil Fruit abilities may prove to be worthy adversaries to the Admiral’s light attacks and speed.
10 Noro Noro no Mi
The Noro Noro no Mi, also known as the Slow-Slow Fruit, allows the user to slow anything for 30 seconds that is caught within a beam. Eaten by Foxy the Silver Fox, this Devil Fruit ability would expose one of Kizaru’s main offensive strategies: speed. Since Kizaru relies on movement, slowing him down would grant any combatant a better chance of landing devastating blows on him.
The limitations with this Devil Fruit, however, are seen in the small windows of both the beam’s size and the amount of time the target is slowed. Foxy can only slow something down that fits in the beam, and even if the target is caught, they are only slowed temporarily. This means that Foxy would have to successfully hit Kizaru and use the limited time wisely to defeat him.
9 Bari Bari no Mi
Eaten by Bartolomeo, a member of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, the Bari Bari no Mi lets the user produce a seemingly unbreakable barrier. The Devil Fruit’s usefulness against Kizaru would be in its ability to block Kizaru’s attacks. While this ability does not allow Bartolomeo to reflect attacks back, it still proves useful as a line of defense against even the strongest opponents.
Where this Devil Fruit may falter is in Bartolomeo’s limited barrier control. For instance, Bartolomeo can only produce a certain amount of barriers, and these barriers can be traversed around. As such, Kizaru could use speed to his advantage here; Bartolomeo’s best strategy would be selectively choosing where his barriers go and manipulating their shape to receive Kizaru’s attacks.
8 Woshu Woshu no Mi
One of the more visually comical abilities, the Woshi Woshi no Mi sees victims immobilized by being washed and dried like clothing. While in this cloth-like state, targets are unable to move or attack and become “cleaner” — in other words, unlikely to want to attack or commit crimes.
Because of this Devil Fruit’s entrapment and personality changing properties, using it against Kizaru would prove effective — it would only take turning Kizaru into laundry to render him useless. Should its user, veteran Marine Vice Admiral Tsuru, ever feel compelled to use this ability against a fellow Marine, there’s a chance the fight would not in fact be a wash between the two.
7 Buku Buku no Mi
A combination of trapping foes in illusions and literally trapping them in books, the Buku Buku no Mi grants the user manipulation over books. Charlotte Mont-d’Or, the Devil Fruit’s user, can use this ability to trick enemies into thinking they’re in another world, leaving them physically defenseless. What’s more, Mont-d’Or can also place victims into his books, turning them into imprisoned illustrations.
The best tactic for facing Kizaru with this ability would be trapping him in a book, since that would be the easiest way to subdue him. However, it should be noted that captives can escape from the book by burning it; should Kizaru succeed in doing this (and know he can do this), Mont-d’Or would still have visual illusions.
6 Kira Kira no Mi
Since Kizaru’s Devil Fruit pertains to light, a great combatant for its abilities would be one that could manipulate or avoid it. The Kira Kira no Mi (used by Jozu) lets the user turn their body into diamond. Living up to his epithet, “Diamond” Jozu (a popular character among One Piece fans) can use this ability to increase his offensive and defensive capabilities, covering his body in parts or its entirety in diamond.
This ability thrives against Kizaru since light is reflected and passes through diamond, meaning that any of Kizaru’s light-based attacks on Jozu would potentially be useless. Though Jozu’s movement is restricted when fully covered, this form would guarantee him immunity to being struck by light.
5 Hobi Hobi no Mi
An underrated yet immensely powerful Devil Fruit, the Hobi Hobi no Mi turns victims into toys at the touch of the user’s hands. Sugar, the Devil Fruit’s wielder, can also erase other’s memories of anyone she transforms, which is useful in keeping them captive in this form since no one would bother coming to rescue them.
By both transforming him into a toy and causing everyone to forget his existence, Sugar could best Kizaru easily — so long as she can get a hand on him. His best chance for overcoming this ability would be to knock her out before being transformed. Should Sugar be accompanied with allies, however, her chances of touching him would increase.
4 Zushi Zushi no Mi
Consumed by a fellow Marine, the Zushi Zushi no Mi focuses on its user manipulating gravitational forces. Its user, Admiral Fujitora, has used this ability to repel objects, fly, and manipulate multiple different gravity fields at once.
This match-up would come down to the fact that gravity can bend light. Since Kizaru uses light beams as attacks and for movement, cutting off his path with gravity manipulation would halt his advances and techniques. Though Fujitora’s abilities can be disrupted when he’s attacked, it would be easy for the Admiral to distract his fellow Marine with flying debris. Not to mention that Fujitora is an archetypal powerful swordsman, and could use this to take on Kizaru in combination with his abilities.
3 Nikyu Nikyu no Mi
Equal parts adorable and powerful, the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi grants its user the ability to repel anything they touch — from physical bodies to the air around them. Bartholomew Kuma, the current user, has been shown to propel himself at rapid speed by repelling the air around him, and has even used his ability to send people flying for exactly three days and three nights.
Seeing as he can easily repel air, light should prove no problem for Kuma. While there’s no exact measurement between Kuma and Kizaru’s speed, the two would prove worthy adversaries on that front, and Kizaru would need to find openings in Kuma’s tremendous defenses to land a hit without being reflected. Ultimately, if it really came down to it, Kuma could just send Kizaru away.
2 Mira Mira no Mi
A Devil Fruit that contains its own world, the Mira Mira no Mi is an ability that’s based around mirrors. The user can generate multiple mirrors from their hands, able to act as shields that reflect attacks back at opponents. As part of the powerful Charlotte Family, Charlotte Brûlée also uses this ability to trap victims in her mirrors, placing them in the Mirro-World.
The mere fact that mirrors reflect light demonstrates enough why this Devil Fruit would prove difficult for Kizaru. With the reflected quality of Brûlée’s mirrors, Kizaru may be overpowered by the Charlotte Family member using his own attacks against him.
1 Yami Yami no Mi
Perhaps the antithesis to Kizaru’s Pika Pika no Mi, the Yami Yami no Mi is light’s opposite: darkness. Masterfully used by New World Emperor Marshall D. Teach (AKA Blackbeard), the Devil Fruit allows him to consume attacks and opponents into a black hole, while also nullifying Devil Fruit user’s abilities.
Since light is absorbed by darkness, Kizaru’s Devil Fruit abilities would be completely overwhelmed by Blackbeard’s. Between trapping the Admiral’s attacks in his black holes and revoking him of his abilities, Blackbeard could easily negate everything Kizaru threw at him. In a battle between light and darkness, Kizaru would ultimately be completely overshadowed in this match-up.
