5 Fighters That People Want In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate And 5 Fans Can Go Without

It’s pretty much common knowledge at this point that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is one of the best games in the franchise, serving as a great fighting game that utilizes a novel concept to great effect. The mere fact that a simple fighter reveal for Smash ends up sending the internet into a meltdown — for both positive and negative reasons — is proof enough of just how insanely popular and beloved this game really is.

So, that being said, it’s only a given that fans want to see characters from popular games being represented in Smash, so that new and veteran players both can get excited while choosing these fighters to play around with. However, some reveals have disappointed fans to the point where they don’t really want any representation from franchises that have already seen enough characters being introduced in the game as is.

Keeping this in mind, here are five fighters that people can genuinely be excited about for Smash, coupled with five other characters that should ideally stay well clear of this title.

10 WANT: Doom Slayer

While the idea of a visceral fighter like the Doom Slayer might seem rather out of place for a kid-friendly fighter like Smash, there’s no denying the fact that choosing this iconic character to battle against the residents of the Smash Universe is bound to be quite entertaining indeed.

The idea of ripping and tearing all over Smash’s stages as the Doom Slayer is bound to be entertaining, with his BFG serving as the perfect Ultimate Smash as well!

9 CAN GO WITHOUT: Toad

The Mario franchise has already seen a ton of representation in Smash as is, and people are already complaining about the fact that some genuinely iconic — and appealing — characters from the franchise haven’t seen the light of day in this game yet.

Toad is a character that people love… but he’s far from a character that people want in Smash right now. Including him in Smash wouldn’t really elicit anything more than just a lukewarm response of sorts.

8 WANT: Waluigi

However, there’s certainly one particular character in the Mario Universe whom people absolutely adore… even though his inception as a character was just to serve as a doubles partner for Wario in Mario Tennis!

It’s a testament to the fans of Nintendo that Waluigi has become such an iconic character, and the fact that the Piranha Plant managed to make the cut over such a beloved character was hard to fathom for a majority of the fanbase.

7 CAN GO WITHOUT: The Rabbids

While it’s true that the collaboration between Mario and the Rabbids ended up being surprisingly enjoyable, that’s still no excuse for these characters to be included in a Smash game.

After all, the Rabbids have a long way to go before fans find them iconic and enjoyable enough to even be considered as a playable character in Smash — something that could very much be a reality given Nintendo’s shoddy track record.

6 WANT: Nathan Drake

While the idea of one of the PlayStation’s most iconic characters being included in Smash might seem like a rather tall order, there’s no denying the fact that seeing everyone’s favorite treasure hunter in this game would be quite a treat indeed.

The Uncharted series definitely ended on a high note, and a ton of Sony fans can definitely be interested in the prospect of blasting away other fighters with Nathan’s varied arsenal of long-range weapons and close-quarters combat.

5 CAN GO WITHOUT: Sackboy

While Sackboy was definitely rather iconic at one point, the manner in which LittleBigPlanet as petered off as a franchise certainly reduces any interest that fans might’ve had in Sackboy’s integration into Smash.

As of this point, revealing Sackboy as a fighter in Smash isn’t really going to turn any heads — in fact, it might even turn some away! If Sakurai really wants Smash to have good Sony representation, then there are way better characters that can be integrated.

4 WANT: Master Chief

Any gamer worth his salt is well aware of the Master Chief’s character, who is easily one of the most iconic video game characters of all time. So, it goes without saying that his reveal as a fighter in Smash is bound to break the internet.

Microsoft’s representation in Smash is bound to turn some heads, which makes the inclusion of Master Chief a win-win for both parties.

3 CAN GO WITHOUT: Rayman

While the Rayman series is full to the brim with some great characters, one has to admit that the mascot of this franchise isn’t really notable enough to warrant an appearance in Smash.

The reception to Rayman being in Smash is bound to be lukewarm, and Nintendo should ideally find more high-profile names in order to justify their inclusion in one of the biggest and most popular brawlers of all time.

2 WANT: Crash Bandicoot

The resurgence of Crash as PlayStation’s mascot with the release of a remaster and a new title in the series has certainly sparked a newfound interest in introducing Crash as a playable fighter for Super Smash Bros.

In fact, most players were eagerly awaiting his announcement in the latest Nintendo Direct… only to be thrown a completely when it turned out that Pyra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 would be making the cut instead.

1 CAN GO WITHOUT: Literally Any Fire Emblem Character

The reception to Byleth’s inclusion in Smash made it infinitely clear that fans are sick and tired of the incessant obsession that Nintendo has with the Fire Emblem series.

Fire Emblem might be a great series, but there are several other franchises that are objectively more popular. To constantly integrate more Fire Emblem characters in Smash is bound to irk some fans, and Nintendo has probably realized that introducing another Fire Emblem character for Smash isn’t exactly going to have the greatest reception.
