With only a week to go until Zack Snyder’s Justice League is officially dropped on HBO Max, at least if it’s not leaked by accident again, reporters and critics are already starting to get their eyes on the much-anticipated film. However, one of these writers may have jumped ahead of the review embargo and started a DC rumor tidal wave.
Zack Snyder has been endlessly teasing Justice League snippets for fans even before the movie’s final trailer came out, with the latest of those being a Darkseid and Steppenwolf ad that ran on Twitch as well as a Wonder Woman commemorative clip released on International Women’s Day. Clocking in at slightly over four hours of runtime, it’s puzzling where Snyder is getting so much new material considering his Justice League version reportedly didn’t film many new scenes.
When the director himself is such a tease regarding his own film, perhaps it’s not that surprising to see Critics Choice member Grace Randolph do the same over on Twitter. In a now-deleted tweet from her account, Randolph posted that she’d just had a “WONDERFUL evening watching a certain movie,” followed by claims from her own sources who pointed to the possibility that there might be a Justice League 2 and 3 planned somewhere down the road. As if that weren’t enough, Randolph pointed out that some executives were interested in having Snyder direct Wonder Woman 3, the sequel that was already confirmed by Warner Bros. on the back of Wonder Woman 1984’s premiere.
Despite deleting the first tweet, Randolph followed up with an almost identical post, with both closing in an uplifting manner by letting fans know “The hype is real… Don’t let up now.” The rumors now started by Randolph coincide with recently leaked information that pointed to what a potential Justice League 2 helmed by Snyder may have looked like, with the Wonder Woman speculation being fueled by his involvement as producer and writer for the first film in that series.
Whatever the case, Zack Snyder’s Justice League has truly built levels of hype that easily surpass the original film that released in 2017 with Joss Whedon as director. It’s still hard to judge how much of that excitement is due to the low movie offerings (especially within the superhero genre for both Marvel and DC) that have been available during the pandemic.
Overall, the past year in movies has been such a long wait and even James Bond’s gadgets in No Time to Die might need some updating. With new never-before-seen footage featuring Jared Leto’s Joker being added to Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the film has built a certain level of expectation. Yet the original cut was such a letdown that it’s hard to imagine it being anything but a successful rework closer to what it was always meant to be.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be available on HBO Max starting March 18.
