Ever since its launch in 2017, the Nintendo Switch has taken the gaming world by storm. Its hybrid capability for both portable and docked functionality attracts gamers of all types. Now rumors are starting to swirl about a new Nintendo Switch Pro model launching later this year.
Speculation of an upgraded console model is not particularly unusual due to past releases like PlayStation 4 Pro or Xbox One X. Typically Nintendo consoles do not pack powerful hardware, and the Switch is no different. But with next generation consoles like PlayStation 5 having big launches, there is a chance the handheld could receive a boost as a way to keep up. And based on Bloomberg’s recent report, it sounds like Nintendo is gearing up for a new Switch model.
The main support for this possibility comes from Nintendo’s own sales projections. Throughout the fiscal year, which ends in March 2022, the gaming company expects to maintain sales numbers or reach greater heights. These numbers will be supported by the launch of the upgraded Switch device which offers additional benefits. The highlights look to be a bigger handheld screen with an OLED display, and superior graphics potential while docked.
While a new Switch device should result in greater sales numbers, the report mentions some of the company’s other plans. Supposedly, Nintendo is also going to break sales records by releasing a wide range of gaming experiences during this fiscal year. Since most of this insider information comes from partners and suppliers, there is no official announcement from Nintendo about an upgraded Switch at this time.
Leaks and rumors about a new Switch device have become commonplace in the gaming community. It is bound to happen at some point, but some may be surprised that it could be happening soon. The Switch is Nintendo’s second best selling console, so it is not like the device is dropping in popularity. That said, an improved version will likely attract plenty of undecided players or fans seeking an upgrade.
On the other hand, speculation of a new model could be a false flag. Despite this information floating around, the company continues to deny or refrain from commenting on the possibility. Nintendo touting more software sales also seems questionable since the latest Nintendo Direct was missing plenty of games players were expecting. These sales could even end up being stunted if the titles can only be played on the upgraded model. Nevertheless, Nintendo fans will just have to keep their eyes peeled this year to see if a new device is coming.
The Nintendo Switch is available now.
