March marks a momentous occasion for Cities: Skylines, and that is especially true in 2021. As of March 10th, the game has now been out for over five years, and in celebration of this exciting fact, Paradox Interactive decided to share some mind boggling statistics. While there is plenty of interesting data among the statistics it shared, one of the most impressive revolves around the total population of cities created by players, a number that eclipses that of the real world several times over.
Though many players may be more familiar with Cities: Skylines after it was released for free to PS Plus subscribers back in May 2020, it has been alive and kicking since long before then. Now after five years, the developers have revealed some of the truly amazing accomplishments that players in the game have achieved together.
According to Paradox Interactive, the total in game population across 84 million cities created by players has reached a staggering 432,171,234,270. For reference, there are approximately 7.67 billion people living on the Earth in the real world, meaning this 432.17 billion figure is absolutely bizarre. This is well over 50 times the actual population of the Earth.
In addition to this, Paradox Interactive also claims to have over 16 million players and a total playtime of 74,956 years. There have also been hundreds of thousands of mods created for Cities: Skylines that allow players to customize the experience to their liking. All of this comes directly from March 2021’s Paradox Insider event, where a Cities: Skylines competition was also showcased. The segment on Cities: Skylines and the new competition starts at 43:33.
Cities: Skylines is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
