Overwatch 2 was revealed with a brilliant, eight-minute long animated short called “Zero Hour.” In the short, the remnants of Overwatch can be seen trying to stop the start of the second Omnic invasion, with Winston, Tracer, and Mei being all that is left of the disbanded faction. Despite trying their best, though, the heroes are outnumbered, and it looks as if Winston is about to be killed by one of the massive robots that were wreaking havoc. While fans immediately worried that Overwatch 2 could kill off characters, Genji’s last-minute save saw the scientist rescued.

From there, heroes like Reinhardt, Brigitte, Mercy, and Echo entered the fight, assisting with the rescue and helping to form the new version of Overwatch. An exciting moment for fans, as it saw the game’s heroes properly reuniting to protect the world around them, the trailer setup Overwatch 2’s main story brilliantly. A great prologue to the events of the game, those interested in the series’ lore need to give this short a watch.

After Zero Hour revealed the game, Blizzard showcased Overwatch 2 gameplay in action. A major spotlight was placed on the PvE mode in the trailer, showing some of the Omnics that the heroes will face throughout the next game. New abilities were shown off for some of the heroes as well, confirming that they can be upgraded throughout the events of the game’s story. As for multiplayer, the gameplay trailer showcased several new Overwatch 2 maps as well as the new game mode push. A solid 3 minutes of raw gameplay footage, the trailer gives players an idea of what they can expect from all facets of the sequel.

Finally, there is Overwatch 2’s BlizzConline showing. While some fans may have found it disappointing due to the lack of hero reveals or a release date confirmation, there was a lot of positive information in the video as well. Over 30 minutes long, this deep dive into the game was filled with info, whether it be the confirmation of “hundreds” of hero missions or details regarding competitive mode changes. The Behind The Scenes video also features a look at the sequel’s new sound system and details on how PvE will be expanding certain maps to add fresh areas.

With more Overwatch hero reskins shown off, giving fans idea of the new looks for characters like Widowmaker and McCree, there was a lot to take in. While the video did ultimately confirm that the game is still a long way off, Blizzard is clearly putting a lot of passion into making the sequel as good as it can possibly be. For any fans wanting an inside look into the game development process, as well as an idea of how the sequel will work, giving this video a watch would be a wise idea.
