Destiny 2’s Guardian Games Will Include a New Exotic Catalyst

Destiny 2 is halfway through Season of the Chosen, which means there’s still quite a bit of content left to play through before the summer. With patch 3.1.1, Grandmaster Nightfalls launched and the database got updated in preparation for Guardian Games. Keen-eyed fans have taken a look around and found out that the Heir Apparent catalyst will be available this year.

Guardian Games is an annual Destiny 2 tradition Bungie established last year. This event has replaced Revelry, and Crimson Days to a lesser extent, as the seasonal spring event. In Guardian Games, all members of Destiny‘s three classes compete by collecting laurels and banking them at the podium. At the end of the three-week tournament, the class with the most laurels is deemed the victor.

One of the allures of Guardian Games last year was Heir Apparent, an exotic heavy machine gun. This Cabal-themed Solar weapon shoots rapidly and provides the user with a protective bubble. As icing on the cake, it has ties to the current lore, especially Caiatl’s. However, due to the weapon’s acquisition method, players who have not participated in Guardian Games during Shadowkeep currently don’t have access to the gun.

Heir Apparent will once again be earnable this year, and the weapon will also receive an exotic weapon catalyst. It’s named Legion’s Bulwark and requires 700 kills to be unlocked. Once unlocked and applied, it strengthens the Arc shield of Heir Apparent and reloads part of its magazine if the shield breaks while the weapon is being used. Dedicated players are constantly looking out for meaningful catalysts such as this one, so it will be a welcome addition to arsenals.

The catalyst’s quest details are still up in the air, and Bungie may be making a change to how to event functions exactly anyway given the feedback the studio received last year. Some players have noted seeing laurel counters on their old Guardian Games Ghosts after the recent patch, so at least some of the older loot will be relevant again.

As far as cosmetics go, the Eververse Store will be restocked with Ghosts, Ships, Sparrows, Emotes, and armor sets. Each item will be available for Bright Dust and Silver for at least one week during Guardian Games. Many collectors are happy that more armor with glowing parts are getting added, especially with transmog arriving in Season 14, shortly after the event ends.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
