Rainbow Six Siege and Dirt 5 have been made available to download and play as part of Free Play Days on Xbox until March 21 and March 24, respectively. Players seeking to take advantage of this opportunity must be Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members and have until 11:59pm PT on the respective days.
Ubisoft Montreal’s 5v5 tactical shooter has seen success since its late-2015 debut and players can expect tight and destructible environments. Dirt 5, released in late 2020 and developed and published by Codemasters, is a racing game focusing on off-road courses and players of either can expect their progress to carry over if they purchase the game after the free-to-play window ends.
Free Play Days provide Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members access to a variety of games throughout the year. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege has been available before on Free Play Days and continues to garner players, especially since its adoption as an Esport. Dirt 5 as well as Rainbow Six Siege are already available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members without this time constraint and this free-to-play window may hold less appeal because of this.
Though often in the shadow of the larger success stories such as Call of Duty franchise and Fortnite, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is a shooter that promises competitive PVP combat with a focus on tactical gameplay. The game is currently available for a discounted price with three editions for consumers to choose from ranging from the Deluxe edition at $9.99 to the Ultimate edition at $54.99. Codemaster’s Dirt 5 is the latest example in their off-road racing franchise and offers just one edition for $59.99.
Free Play Days give Xbox players a chance to try out titles that they may not have been interested in enough to purchase. While these titles are already be available to one of these memberships, this opportunity shouldn’t be ignored. Rainbow Six Siege plays differently than most shooters and Dirt 5 is a great opportunity to live the life of a rally driver.
For those looking for an experience more akin to Call of Duty or Forza these titles may not be the right fit, however. Both are targeted at a niche part of a larger genre, Rainbow Six Siege being a tactical shooter and Dirt 5 focusing on rallying, and can alienate some players. If neither sub-genre seems interesting than this Free Play Days offering may be one to be left alone.
