The following article contains spoilers for Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
For the past few months, social media had been abuzz with news, newly released images, and teasers of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Each update from Snyder was received by his fans with excitement and the hype for his film increased with each updated post. It was all fans could talk about this week and with the movie finally premiering on HBO Max on March 18, #SnyderCut immediately started trending on Twitter with fan reactions pouring in.
After years of campaigning to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, DC fans could finally breathe a sigh of relief as their impossible mission had been accomplished. While celebrating the movie that they had long waited for, fans used the hashtag #SnyderCut to share their reviews, congratulate Snyder, and discuss their favorite scenes from the new version of Justice League.
With mostly positive reviews for Justice League flowing in, the film is being referred to by many fans as a massive improvement over Joss Whedon’s theatrical cut, which was released in 2017. Most fans were surprised at how so much important content had been left out of the theatrical cut of the film. Some of the missing scenes included Victor Stone’s journey to becoming Cyborg. The Snyder Cut offers fans an exciting scene of Stone, portrayed by Ray Fisher, playing football in the colors of the Gotham City’s team, followed by a look at the accident that left him on the brink of death. Snyder, in previous interviews, referred to Cyborg as the “heart of the film,” and he delivered on his word.
When a movie is released, its success is usually measured in terms of box office earnings. With Justice League premiering on HBO Max, that is not an option. But, if Justice League’s first official trailer, which has over 22 million views on YouTube since its first release in February, is anything to go by, it is evident that there is a lot of interest in the film. And with loyal Snyder fans ready to click play, the film is likely to receive a lot of views, too. It was revealed in January that HBO Max has nearly 40 million US subscribers. Now, it remains to be seen if Justice League will do its job and boost HBO Max’s subscription numbers.
Fans were not the only ones celebrating the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Henry Cavill himself, who portrays Superman in the DC Extended Universe, marked the occasion with behind-the-scenes photos from the set of Snyder’s film.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is now streaming on HBO Max.
